This week, our journey took an unexpected turn. Since the Azerbaijan land border is currently closed and there’s no easy way to cross the Caspian Sea with bicycles, we had to fly from Georgia to Uzbekistan. While we had hoped to travel overland, the detour led us to a country full of color, culture, and surprises.

We landed in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan—a vibrant city blending Soviet-era architecture with ancient traditions. Our first stop was the bustling Chorsu Bazaar, where we wandered through stalls of spices, fresh produce, and handmade crafts. We also explored some of Tashkent’s iconic metro stations, each one a unique underground gallery with stunning mosaics and grand chandeliers.

After soaking in the energy of the city, we hopped on a train bound for the historic city of Bukhara. Known for its centuries-old architecture and Silk Road charm, Bukhara captivated us immediately. We wandered through its old town, admired the Kalon Minaret, and visited several beautiful mosques that reflect the deep spiritual and architectural heritage of the region.

This week’s video captures the shift from the Caucasus to Central Asia—unexpected, fast-paced, but full of incredible moments.

  1. congratulations for the trip and your videos. You are wonderful. However I do not agree with the use of the plane which pollutes a lot and is the opposite of the philosophy of the cycle traveler

Tashkent! What a surprise twist! I had no idea the Azerbaijani land border was closed.

I loved the restaurant with the lights and the mist and the [hanging grapes?] at 5:25.

What a market! The rotunda at 9:23 was impressive.

What were the flat fruits at 8:16?

After so many centuries of dormancy, more and more it appears central Asia is rising again – how amazing.

You captured so much beauty in 18 minutes – Great job!

  3. Fabulous photography! Can you tell us a bit more about your bicycles? E.g. what make, gears, accessories etc. I am sure some viewers would be interested in this. Stay safe!
