Dear Friends,
The city is breathing heavy under the weight of the heat. It’s the middle of summer in Amsterdam, and the air hangs thick over the canals, unmoving. Shade is rare. The sun reflects off the cobblestones, and even the bicycles seem to glide a little slower.

This ride begins at Jodenbreestraat, where shadows stretch long across the old stone. From there, we meander through the center, skirting the edge of the canal belt, and make our way—without rush—towards Vondelpark. Trees sway softly, if at all. A few birds stir. The city, usually brisk and sharp, has dulled its edges in the heat.

People adapt. Some hide in the dark cool of cafés. Others linger at the water’s edge with their feet just above the surface. The noise is hushed. Even the trams seem to rattle more quietly than usual.

This is Slow TV: no music, no commentary—just the sound of bicycle tires, distant voices, and the hum of a city trying not to sweat. The ride is shorter than most. The camera, like the rest of us, wasn’t made for this weather.

There’s enough chaos in the world already. For now, this is a small invitation to coast quietly through sunburnt streets, and feel what it’s like to simply observe.

  1. It is amazing how so many are just out for themselves. These videos show that over and over again. Are we all behaving this way, probably, how very sad.
