$200 Trek 1000 Alpha for sale. Used, obviously. Is it in decent shape for the price. I don’t know much about bikes. Looking to commute about 15 minutes to school and back.

Not at all. Chainrings are very worn with a missing tooth, and so is the rear cassette (almost seem heavily raced on) If just going for a 15 min school commute, look for a flatbar hybrid with 700c wheelset (trek fx, giant escape, specialized sirrus or Jamies coda etc)
The model here is Trek 1000. Alpha refers to the grade aluminum that the frame is made of.
But yeah, despite the age this is a fine bike for your purpose, and it’s an acceptable price.
Is this a good bike? No. Is this a good deal? Also no. But it is an ok bike at an ok deal. I had a similar bike I was gonna sell, in better condition and I was going to accept $125
i wouldnt lay that rear derailer in the dirt like he has, maybe the angle is confusing though
