So I have this rack from 2020

It worked great on my 2 gravel bikes, but recently got a FS for myself and got a HT for me and hoping the wife would start MTB riding.

Well 2 weeks ago we took a trip for my birthday and did our first MTB ride together and the wife enjoyed herself yay! But 45 min into our drive home the HT fell off the back of the jeep, we turned around to look for it and DPS told us what mile marker it was spotted at. But it was gone DPS and ADOT both say they don’t have it and after 2 weeks I think it’s gone.

I emailed Yakima to see if they have had issues with the rubber straps weakening with age but it’s been radio silence.

I also got the deal of the century upgrading my FS for my birthday and have enough parts to build a HT bike if I could get a frame. Specialized seemed inclined to help me pick up a frame but they are out of stock and don’t know when they will get more.

I know a hitch mount is the way to go but the Jeep didn’t have one and parts are $2500 to install it. I was ok going roof rack but the SUV sits too high for the wife to get bikes up on top. Has anyone else had issues with the Yakima rack? Or have recommendations?

Thank you for listening to my sad story. RIP “Turtle”

  1. $2500 to install a hitch??

You should be able to get it done for less than $500. Check out your local Uhaul (assuming you’re in the US)
