Hello! I am planning on doing my first Ironman 70.3 next year and am looking for a starter bike around $1000. First question is would the Giant Defy be a good road bike to at least start out with to race a 70.3 with? And if so would this be a good deal for the bike? I am very very new to cycling so I’m still very much in the process of learning. Thank you!!

Decent but not great. The “upgrade” was to 105 with mechical brakes, so a much older groupset. If that bike is 2020 the 105 was already hydraulic by then, so the seller installed a grouspet that predated the frame so it could be seen as a downgrade. The 105 came with hydraulic brakes by 2015, so this really tells you about the type of grouspet that was installed. You should be able to get something with hydraulic discs for around that price.
