where i live its not true. i see people leave teir bikes without lock at the bus stop and its still there when they return. probably because there are so much elderly people here!

There was a custom here in the countryside of finland not to break bicycles, but when you left a bar at night you would always go to the bus station and look if there were any our bikes (Unlocked bikes parked) and if you found one you would bike home with it. The bike would be left at a specific house for drunk people so the owner could find it after a while 😁

Touch wood i have never had a bike stolen in Finland for the last 13 years, and i dont even lock it everytime. Had bikes ranging in value from 500e to 5000e as well.
In UK, everything gets stolen, Mate has even tools stolen out the back of his van while he was at a red light un London
