    “beater” bike upgrade

    Found this 86’ Stumpjumper at a barn about at year ago. Rode it with all the original Deerhead parts but wanted to make it more modern-ish. 2nd photo is when is the bike in 2024

    Added/swapped parts;

    •Alex DC19 wheels w/ Shimano hubs
    •Maps Ahearne Bars
    •Sugino AT 170mm 50/42/28 crank (going to remove the 50 chainring)
    •Shimano XT rear derailleur
    •Shimano Deore front derailleur
    •Shimano HG50 11-36 10sp cassette

      Nice work. The key thing with beater bikes is to spread out the upgrade purchases so your partner has no idea that you put a grand into it. And then burn the receipts.
