Good first entry bike. I would say it’s a light duty MTB. $350 seems like a decent price but I don’t remember what they go for new. Double check the price of a new one and go from there.

  2. Depends on what you’re planning to ride, and how long you hope to keep this bike for.

If it’s going on to blue trails with more natural surface and any kind bigger roots or rocks, or you plan on trying jumps an drops with it the fork is gonna feel underwhelming. And you love the sport and want to level up (as most beginners do) you’ll end up getting a new bike a year in max.

But that said, if that’s your budget, and you can’t stretch it, just get it and go ride! If they say they can do it at 350, aim for 300.

If you can stretch it to $825ish, you’ll get a more capable ride , but with current standard size, for future upgrades

    But that’s a big ask

  4. Frankly it’s a just fine deal. Got my 2014 Jamis brand new in 2019 for $450 had the exact same fork, but came with hydraulic brakes. The fork is perfectly fine for smooth trails, but is really poor for the chunky stuff. The brakes will probably be your first upgrade though. Shimano MT200s are like $50 for the set, so you can get them with the money the seller knocked off the price.

Edit: It’s just fine to get into the sport, but expect to spend another $400 on upgrades over the next couple years to make it really solid.

$350 would be fair either way, but I’m dubious about the pedals, fork, brakes, or other components being new. I could be wrong, but I only see RST forks on entry level bikes from the factory, and it’s hard to find them being sold individually (not packaged with a complete entry-level bike). Same with the other components–the pedals have reflectors on them and the brakes are cable. If the seller is claiming the parts are just “new” and not upgrades then it’s plausible, but I don’t see why one would replace such entry level parts with anything that’s not at least a slight upgrade, especially since you wouldn’t have to spend much to upgrade any of those parts compared to what they are now.

Beware, the fork has the dampening affect equal to a pogo stick. Consider an upgrade…

350 is a good price. I just picked one of these up for my “around town bike” to ride with my kids. The one I got has better components and was only ridden like twice (per the owner). Got it for $680, it was originally $800.
