the race we’ll be reviewing today is the mid chesher 5K one of the fastest 5K road races in Britain It Was Won by the 10,000 M British champion from 2015 a man to keep an eye on with the name Johnny Mela now this is an event put on by run cheser and also an event filmed by retan a so please go and subscribe and follow all of their socials which I will link down below now this race was a mixed race featuring male and female Runners some of these Runners are Elite While others are not the early stages of this race saw Sam Stabler going straight to the front a runner I used to watch many years ago in the cross country and I have to say he was one of the gutsy Runners at inter counties and also races like Parliament Hill and British cross- country championships well straight off the bat we’re looking at a pretty decent pays here I really really am hoping that we’re looking for something at least sub4 or maybe close to sub4 Johnny Miller is the athlete in second currently he is right now wearing the Liverpool harriers vest which uh is pretty eye-catching for its bright yellow color basically the same color as this uh kind of logo thing down at the bottom here right so I’m noticing right now that Sam is still in the lead lead everyone behind him seems to be pretty content with just holding this pace currently operating around about 4 and 1/2 minutes per mile not too bad but it’s not blisteringly fast I would have liked faster and I think a lot of these guys in this field have potential to run a whole bunch faster as we’re approaching the first 500 to 600 m one thing you got to remember here is if you look at Johnny Miller on the right he really isn’t trying it at this point he is really just going out for an easy Jog and he looks like he’s operating more around threshold than anything else now it’s going to be a matter of time before he dropped everyone the question is how long is that going to take if you notice this group is way too big which shows that the pace isn’t fast enough and the likes of 20 30 maybe even 40 plus guys in this lead pack I wouldn’t even call it a lead pack it’s just like a massive group of Runners and the whole race is basically all together as one massive pack one thing that’s really cool about these types of races in Cheshire and also the surrounding areas is they have beautiful scenery if you want a race that has really relaxing and peaceful scenery along with fresh air some of the freshest you’re ever going to race in then I would recommend this 5K it’s really really good one thing I needed to note here is is I haven’t been paid to say that I haven’t been sponsored to say that either but I genuinely mean it from the bottom of my heart that these types of races are really really good for Fast Times if the courses are flat and you have races in nature in the countryside in the more rural areas with lots more trees shrubs con conference bushes things like this you’re going to be getting way more oxygen now that might sound a bit geeky to some of you like I’m running nerd or something but it’s the truth I’ve been a runner for Wow 15 years now and I have to say that in all those years I always ran faster in the places with more nature and scenery why do you reckon all of these fast times are being run up Berlin it’s got a reason because of how many trees they have it’s phenomenal the amount of huge trees they have in Berlin right here we go I think Johnny’s testing the water here he did a little bit of an increase in Pace Sam’s dropped back slightly he’s kind of uh stayed behind here he’s not going with Johnny and Johnny has now done a very subtle increase of pace here 4 minutes in we’re going to be approaching the first mile Mark now and it looks to me like Johnny has realized that the time isn’t fast and other than running for a training run I can’t see why Johnny would enter this race unless he wanted to run a fast time now most of these Runners will end into the race and watch the start list in real time they’ll try and look at the elite entrance and see how fast the guys are who were in The Race I reckon Johnny’s done this but he’s sadly realized that the real Bast fast guys unfortunately haven’t turned up this year however the midchester 5K will be very high standard in the coming years and no doubt I have every belief that next year it will be even better standard right now Johnny is slowly running away he’s gone P the mile Mark he’s now realized that he’s only operating at around about 1430 to 1440 pace which is just not fast enough he needs to start winding this pace up now and getting himself into some kind of a motion and a rhythm because if he doesn’t then he’s just ruined the whole race for himself it can be disappointing for some of these Elite level British Runners when they enter racis and realize that they’ve got to run in no man’s land or run it as if it’s a time trial but you can’t expect other Runners to Pace you unfortunately in true gutsy racing which this race is you’re not going to have 20 pacemakers you’re not going to have all the guys doing the work for you it really is coming down to you putting that work in and bear in mind Johnny’s probably amidst a high mileage week as all of these guys would be training with the possibility to try and qualify for the Paris Olympics because since moof Farah retired and Andy butcharts had a bit of an up and down past few years with injury I really think it’s anyone’s game the English selection for team GB is looking very open and it’s really anyone’s game I’m going to repeat myself anyone’s game it is true obviously you know a guy running 16 minute 5K isn’t going to qualify I’m not stupid but if guys are running 1340 1350 1320 then these are the types of times that are going to be qualifying for the Olympics to put on that team GB vest right now we can see Johnny Miller has been joined by another athlete and I have to say the athlete behind him has a rather peculiar running form he makes these 4 and 1 half minute miles look exceptionally slow is it just me or he actually makes he looks like he’s running in slow motion that is one of the strongest biomechanical running forms I’ve ever seen very very close knit arm Carriage held very close to his body not much motion with his arm swing and uh not much knee Drive either whereas if you look at Johnny it’s a bit more flowing you know every athlete has a sty that suits them best however if you feel like you’re getting injuries this may be down to your running form uh same with gayen rup the Great American runner encounters so many injuries over the years because of his forfoot and rather Tippy Toe star running form which caused him severe inflammation and tendonitis in his Achilles and plantarius here we go Johnny’s starting to it’s really been subtle it’s not like he started sprinting out of nowhere because that would be stupid if Johnny was to put his foot down and you know run a 28200 in the middle of a 5k that would be counterintuitive to his own performance so what he’s done is he’s just slowly started to put the work in and I can see the difference here his armed Carriage is driving way higher it’s coming way lower down he’s turning over his legs much quicker and his stride length is a a lot wider earlier on when I saw him running with the pack at around 2 minutes in he looked like he was just out on a jog he looked very very in control he wasn’t really driving his arms at all and his uh Cadence looked relatively slow almost half of what it is now this is good running by Johnny and again look at this beautiful country lanes not so good for driving down I must admit unless you drive in a tiny fat but um they’re beautiful for running especially in race conditions like this where there are Marshals organiz ERS celebrators Spectators it can be dangerous if you’re training on these roads I highly recommend wearing hiver uh vest and also running as the highway code States uh towards the traffic if you are training on country roads it can be dangerous but I know some people live in the countryside in the UK and unless they drive to a track or a park they can’t get their training run in so please if you are training on these types of Roads wear a HIZ vest and also run towards the traffic as stated in the highway code right now Johnny has dropped second place with a breeze absolutely easy this is over 3K now looking strong he’s going to break 1430 by quite away in my opinion based on what I’ve seen his recent splits he is a very very clean running form I have to say one of those athletes that again looks like he can handle fast Paces very very relaxed that’s not always a good thing like I said you know sometimes people run like this but they can’t change up a gear they can’t increase that pace looking relaxed while running is really important but what’s more important is actually being relaxed while running an athlete that I would remind you guys of is Yuki kuchi and actually this weekend just G he ran a marathon and I was going to cover it but I forgot so I just reminded myself in today’s video is Yuki kuchi ran yet another Marathon recently and I’ll be covering that here on this channel so definitely subscribe to my videos if you are new here and you want to see that we’ve also got the olympits coming up in July we have got blim me we’ve got so many big races on the road the road season is underway the track season is outdoor track season is well underway we’ve got yabing G brickson looking to get some big things against his name it’s really really going strong for him okay so here we are Johnny is now I would say around 3 he’s around 340 3 minutes 40 or 50 from the Finish obviously these are just rough estimates based on how far I think he has to go obviously you can look at the splits and the timing in the bottom right which was kindly set up by Rett and air themselves but another thing you have to remember now is Johnny is going to Tire towards the end it depends in his mind if he has used this as a Time draw or if he is doing it as a thres house run I don’t know if he looks like he has more in the tank it’s really hard to judge with Johnny because like I said although he has increased his arm swing and his Cadence is are getting quicker it seems to me like he actually is very comfortable and I say that because I mean look I can’t see much head bobbing there’s not much over rotation his mid torso is still clean he’s got a strong core uh he look he looks good from a you know from a biomechanical perspective right now as he comes into the Finish he’s looking pretty good I don’t know if he’s going to try and kick it up a notch and really really run fast for the last 1K but right now he’s looking at around just over a k to go and things are looking pretty good for him I wonder if we could get a kind of a heads up on how far second place is behind uh I don’t I don’t know if they are looks to me like they’re around about 150 to 200 M behind cuz initially one of the runners tried to go with Johnny but they didn’t manage to keep up with the pace and they began to slow down and gradually fall back unfortunately so let’s see what kind of time we’re looking at here we’re not far away from the Finish is he going to run something special I reckon he is going to run something pretty fast however you got to remember Johnny is a team GB level athlete he is a very very fast very very fast very very experienced Runner as well because I know that when I started running in 2012 Johnny meler I think was already on the elite circuit for British running so he’s an athlete that’s been up there for many many years he has a 10K PB I think a 28 something he has a 5k PB I believe again don’t quote me I’m just trying to remember off the top of my head something like 13 and a half minutes I think 1331 or 1332 or 3 and uh also run half marathons as well quite a few half marathons to his name of low 60 minutes so he’s a good athlete you know by British standards he’s a very very high standard athlete been running for many years also a good performer at the British cross challenge at Liverpool sepon Park really really good competitions there if you want to go and watch some true British cross country I recommend these two races sepon Park and also Parliament Hill in Hamstead at London really great the Southern England Champs and also the British no sorry not British the English Champs are held at these races okay so we got 1320 on the clock Johnny again not really looking like he is you know operating at full capacity this is how used people used to say this about me in my park run videos I always look like I’m out jogging and when I watch the clip back I’m like hang on I literally look like I’m jogging I’m 6’4 and I’m just extremely lanky and tall and I think Johnny is also uh over he looks over 6 foot to me and maybe like 63 or 6’2 it’s kind of annoying cuz when you’re this tall it makes running fast look slow and easy so here we go coming into the Finish is he going to give a Sprint finish again you can’t tell he’s a tall Runner this could be his Sprint finish I remember my Sprint finishes were so funny obviously I’m not daring compare myself to Johnny apart from height okay that’s it I know he’s a million miles better than me and he has all my respect 100% very good run very strong I think we are looking at what we looking at on the clock here for 1420 just about 14 minutes and 20 seconds unofficial second place not too far behind at all important to note that they actually caught up towards the end which I was kind of surprised now I’ll give all these guys uh Sam Stabler coming in third there for the bronze medal I’ll give all these guys the rec the um kind of announcement they deserve when I show the results in a minute we’re also looking at the lead female coming in in a second um I think it believe it’s it’s Jess in the lead for the women I’m not 100% sure but we should see her come in around about 15 minutes into this race all these guys here breaking 15 minutes very high level Runners a lot of these guys youngsters you know they’re very very strongl looking athletes and they’re early 20s even late teens it’s really really good running if they can stay injuryf free then uh they’ve got some pretty good careers ahead of them even if it’s just a semi-pro career it’s still very very fulfilling within our sport okay so keep your eyes out guys for the lead female she’s going to be coming in in the left hand side near that red and white kind of tape up to separate the spectators and the race itself I think this is her coming up on the left hand side just now whereabouts keep your eyes out guys there we go look that is Jess Bailey I believe I’m just going to get the details up on the results first let’s start with the men the top 10 Johnny Miller Tommy p Samuel Stabler Alex Hampton Gavin Taylor Joseph Charlie John Nathan and Ed congratulations to everyone Liverpool harriers AC we’ve got Mansfield harriers Valley stride as AC wi and District we’ve got uh so many top clubs up here great performance and uh I think they had Johnny at 14 minutes and 18 seconds not too bad at all considering around about 10 minutes of that was all by himself so a not too shabby for a Time CH Johnny not too bad uh definitely looked like you could have run way faster and at the end he just didn’t really give a Sprint finish he looked very relaxed so again if you want to follow Johnny go search his Instagram if I remember I’ll prop that in the description because uh it’s good to stay up to date with all of these British athletes and their training and their races so I found Jess her name is Jess Bailey for Le Valley AC 1537 and she’s an under 21 oh my goodness me that is unbelievable 1537 for an under 21 female Jess please stay injury-free do not burn out and take each step slowly and conservative you are going to be a star in the future that is an unbelievable time for an under 21 female you know that Jess is not going to Peak until her late 20s if we look at science and and biology we are looking at Runners not peing until their late 20s and with guys with males it is even longer as much as their mid-30s the shorter the distance the younger you are when you Peak for it uh it’s tend to see a bit of a correlation there obviously I know correlation isn’t causation but we’re looking at about 800 and 400 meter Runners being peaking in their mid-20s uh uh early 20s um but you know we had the late Kelvin kept them rip come along at a very young age so some of these are being broken please subscribe to my channel and I’ll catch you tomorrow
