The road from the airport to the start of the climb is a highway with a wide sidewalk, well-lit at night, with lots of local restaurants, supermarkets, and motels. Also there are lots of attractions on the road – large waterfalls, hot springs, beaches. One km before the climb there is a small village where you can eat something and buy some drinking water for the climb.
The climb (gravel/dirt) goes for 15km and can be devided in two parts: the first part is a nice gravel road – some parts are steep but manageable with low gears. Then there’s a national park camp where you have to pay an enterance fee (currently THB40 for Thai citizens, THB400 for foreigners). You can ask for water from the camp – they don’t sell it but might help you. Also they do not usually let people ascend to the top alone – I had to negotiate and promise to call the staff when I reach the top.
After the camp the road gets worse, I had to push my bike a lot. Also there are streams with stones which you have to cross on foot – beware of leeches.
The top has a coulpe of toilets with buckets of rainwater, I managed to take a shower. On weekends there are usuallt some people on SUVs/Enduro bikes around, but it was Wednesday, so I was alone.
Sleeping is nice there – the mountain is 900m high, so the temperature lowers down to 18-20 degrees Celsius at night.
