Trip Report: Portland → Seattle → Deception Pass Loop (via Whidbey Island)
Just wrapped up a 4-day bikepacking trip and wanted to share the route! Started by riding to Union Station in Portland, took the Amtrak up to Seattle, then pedaled north to Deception Pass via Whidbey Island. Took the ferry from Mukilteo to Columbia Beach and overnighted in Port Townsend on the way up.
Camped at Deception Pass (absolutely beautiful spot), then reversed course—another night in Port Townsend before heading back to Seattle for the train home.
Whidbey riding was super scenic, with chill traffic and some solid climbs. Ferries were smooth and easy with the bike. Great mix of coastal views, forest riding, and small-town stops. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a mellow but rewarding route in the PNW.

Nice plan. The ferry ride for bicycle touring is so nice. I remember taking the ferry to Orcas Island on one of my first tours about 15 years ago.
