Biking to the Boozers: 17 Miles, Great Ales & One Wet Dog! Ilkeston To Trent Lock

So to blow away the cobwebs after a night on the tiles, I dig out the old faithful chariot and went on biking pub adventure from Ilkeston to Trent Lock—and back again!
That’s 17 miles of scenic canal paths, beer stops, food at the famous Trent Lock pub, and a surprise swim… by my dog, Alfie. He took “canal side stroll” a bit too literally.

Expect good ales, great views, and one very soggy border collie. Cheers to real adventure—and real ale!

so today we’re going to go we’re going to bike from all the way to Trent Lock and go get ourselves some of that nice pizza I was on about it last video when I biked down the canal but this time we’re going the old way So we’re starting off just from the field at Back at Tesco there And it’s a long ride Well it’s not that long really It’s probably about an hour if we take our time But anyway let’s do it [Music] Right So over the first bridge and we turn right straight onto the canals Sorry about the wind [Music] Go on boy Hey welcome to the new video I do want to show the full route so I’m going to speed up as much as I can so you can see the whole [Music] thing We haven’t really got the weather today Sun’s not shining Keeps trying to pour through the crowds but it goes in Sun’s lost It’s like a spare stopper or something over there [Music] Look boy Health is so much better now He’s getting a bit more trained Um we’ve got him so he’ll ignore everything passing He’ll ignore all of the dogs and stuff which is great As we know from the first video it’s not very far to the first pub So I do get uh a sort of quarter way there Well quarter away fifth of the way the refreshment on the way which is good Come on boy [Music] This wind seems to drop down a bit here uh because of the tree cover cuz obvious you can still see him blowing up there Here’s the lock full lock Not many people have been here but I suppose the weathering great So Alfie this way Come on He’s no brains that dog [Music] Yeah he is me in a bloody vest as well And it is getting quite cold though And it picked me through really cuz it’s getting quite late Look at that There he goes [Music] melting We went out for a few beers last night so this is good to blow away the cobwebs today And no doubt this is bank holiday Sunday and we’re on the bike We’re going to have a couple on route aren’t we we have two really don’t we what’s the name of the channel finding the good pubs Well on this route we’ve got two crackers So uh pes are like 3/4 between each other but uh they’re both pub so looking forward to a nice [Music] pike This is bit what always looks really nice across there If I turn the handlebars you can see all to know better Dave and Liz and dog Dog’s just called doggy They always have some interesting stuff as well If you look across early they’re like a big teddy bird that there They always have like old bangers and cars classic cars and racing bangers and stuff But yeah I love that place It’s interesting to go and have a look at it on the other side at some point but I don’t think you get to it until back on for ages Come on Don There’s an even old a really old I mean I’m talking probably water time scooter I can I can get that I’ll zoom in old scooter it’s like water time look it’s like 30s 40s sort of they always have different every time I come past it’s something different as well it’s weird Thank you [Music] That’ll teach you it [Music] He takes us to rate 45 minutes off bike He’ll run with you Oh he run away Oh he do it 10 times over this lad And then come back And then come back And then he want to play as soon as you get home It was 5 and a half hours We had him on it once He were running constantly Yeah And then we got home and he was he was watching play ball in the garden He’s just throwing his ball for chase Sorry Stop caught He watching dogs What is he he’s only three So he’s only Yeah he can’t swim Can he he’s never been in before has he really properly so he’s always worried of it So I think that were good for him But he he panicked He panic when he couldn’t get out So yeah but he managed He didn’t like drown He did kick He was doing his doggy paddle but you can see he was panicking [Music] Yeah back up Yeah Yeah Yeah It’s all right Good Oh yeah Is it uh Oh yeah It’s forest today is it yeah Yeah Nice one Cheers Check this idiot Let He’s wet through this lad He just fell a canal Come here You get your bike and sort it around Then you can grab him Oh cheers So I needed a bit more wetting you know cuz I’m not wet enough dog Come here So first stops the gallows Dian’s gone getting them in And this lad like I just said has just fell in the canal I I drove sorry I rode past it on my bike so I missed getting the footage of it but it was quite funny because it’s the first time he’s properly been in there and he couldn’t get out so we were panicking and scrabbling Obviously I got hold of his collar and got him out but then he shaked like that and I’m absolutely soaking wet through Luke you’re an empty Anyway I quite need this bike now Well I said it was a cracking pub They don’t do real ales but they do do a really nice pine Uh I’ve got a Stella Dian’s got a copper B Just gone getting him some water and some treats cuz they give them your willy-nilly here Let’s try this bad boy It’s probably going to be a bit cuz obviously died a few last night which um took me most of the day to get over Oh that’s nice actually That is a good bite That actually is really on point Solid eight with you Right What are you winging for what what do you want what you nudging me for i know Cuz he wants to go more running He likes to run He doesn’t like to stop Where you winging cuz we’ve stopped [Music] Well at least the sun’s come out a little bit now So uh we probably stopped a little bit too long there We was there for about half an hour but we was giant So uh chat a few other [Music] locals You having a new look no Oh bloody rubby Not good [Music] I was actually wondering why it was so quiet Uh but then somebody’s just pointed out in the last pub that obviously it’s football today Uh and obviously it’s we’re getting right I think we’re actually in Nottinghamshire now Uh whoa doggy Come on And obviously everybody’s watching Forest cuz they want to get Champions League football So uh it’s everybody’s got two footballs So basically got the canal pretty empty pretty to ourselves which is great So I’m happy with that So I might get to Trent lock and be able to get food nice and easy without waiting And hopefully it’ll be nice It’ll be quiet the way I like it All good Got some nice boats here Well I say nice This one’s a bit bruised and battered but still going Look at that In fact it’s all boarded up It’s all rotted and boarded up that one But couple over there as [Music] well Don’t you dare get that duck No it got him Oh he’s got ducklings Hey he’s getting a good lad now Started ignoring stuff like that when he was cuffing up He’s getting a lot better off the lead He’s starting ignoring other dogs now Whereas when he was still a pup I mean he’s three now but up to two he was still trying to chase everything that moved Now he’s learning He knows weight and goal and stuff [Music] [Music] You getting any luck no There up there They said they not had anything all day Sorry [Music] He want to heat [Music] I think we’re probably about four or five miles in at the moment So hopefully over halfway [Music] Hopefully Give him a whistle and he appears Still going strong though He’s done about five mile of running now Hopefully asleep tonight And we got to go obviously when we go away there We got to go way back as well [Music] I think that was somebody’s pride and joy at one time Look That was somebody’s proud and joy once and now it’s just a sunken [Music] wreck [Music] Heat Heat [Music] Do it now Do it [Music] now Do it down [Music] You really [Music] got this boat here Look it looks abandoned to me There’s no lock on it All the windows are sort of picking up If you look like this stuff what’s left here is like all covered in cobwebs Like a bike’s been there for years I love having nosy inside but obviously I’m not going to do cuz uh it’s not mine But it looks like it’s been stood there for quite a while [Music] Oh I didn’t see that before Got a p steambo We got a pie Alfie Nope [Music] Here Oh we’re here Yes we’re here Happy days So here’s your journey to Trent Lock Uh now we get to sample this amazing food and beer Here it is right in front of us It’s a trip lot three eyes bely’s knackered and you mod you’re knackered Yeah I’m traumatized and he’s cut his paw scrabbling to get out of the canal when he fell in But yeah it’s nice here It’s lovely and the food is amazing So let’s order Simple QR code Scan the QR code when we’re away We do the best pizza in the world but they’ve stopped doing it So just not on Sundays They don’t do pizza on Sundays So I’ve ordered the good old favorite fish and chips You know me And this one what Dian’s chosen it’s called Anthem Never had this before in my life I don’t know what brewery it is And the dogs go away Alfie come here Oh that’s nice too Um Yep Same again 37 Here we go We got fishing chips Bit stingy on chips mind for 17 quid but they belt it So she don’t get salt probably finish it by the time she gets back Oh yeah them chips are melting [Music] So we’re just coming out of Top there And this pub here which I didn’t know existed So actually if you count this and the one back across the road there’s actually four pubs where I thought there was only two There’s actually four on this route Uh you got live music outside and everything That’s great I think that’s brilliant [Music] So the steamboat I think I’ll try this on my next video or my next visit I should say Oh it looks like vans at back [Music] Rainbow So that would have the bike ride Uh so if anybody’s thinking of doing it that’s how easy it is It says 45 minutes but we was taking our time If you you know put pedal to the pedal then uh you could do it easily in that or quicker Well you know we took our time so it took us about an hour and a quarter It’s a nice ride And I just saw it’s 8 and 1 half mile Know we’ve got to do it back cannot bore you with that because you’ve already seen the journey coming So uh so obviously by the time we get back we’ve done 17 mi which and two drinks or something to
