Northern Scotland Gravel Epic – Inverness to Thurso

A three day ride from Inverness to Thurso, off road as much as possible! We stayed a night at the excellent Woodland B&B in Rosehall and a second night at the Crask Inn. Some routes were better than others! A major road deviation was required around the west/north of Ben More Assynt because the rivers were too high to cross.

[Music] Bing out off G see I kind day I am I am a there we go first B off boing woo a lovely [Music] stretch commit yourself good to see well [Music] done that’s we’re heading up the first call of the trift as well I think bit of a headwind some showers but not bad where we come from down there day [Music] to O Bridge miserable scenes today heading back onto the grav PR shed into lud and back into the [Music] [Applause] [Music] rain good a bonus Tac here rain has ameliorated Ben more since bonus peak in the cloud are we going to have time today [Music] C well I’m already exhausted so we have’t Lio the river is rather full obviously rain a l so yeah think this might be a picture of the day deep that looks actually so uh deviation North I yeah have a PA between oh gosh I know sun’s out looking better and heading up towards ladmore Junction Sullivan in the distance tremendous seen of one man break one man bule the okay dropping down into KCU hopefully for a bit of a feed toop the water balls up and then turning East daily [Music] minor deviation this is the alternative Crossing to the east we’ve been pushed quite a long way North cuz we couldn’t get over by Benmore asent and we think there’s a trail that’s going to take us over to a place called aari and further east towards Al mahara and the bettered breakfast hopefully the woman in the cafe warn us about 8 ft deep bogs if we stray from the trail but so far looking good fantastic very stiff climbing but absolutely fantastic scenery [Music] very steep descent but thankfully all rer boy all Riders down in one piece [Music] woo oh dear time desent wa rain begins again next climb bit of grade one grade two gravel do you think ke grade two grade two [Music] gra poing out on the call massive ta and descending back to the last Road section of the day hopefully it’s going to be more great 2/ grade one there’s Ben hope not going to time for that unfortunately another time oh no had to retrieve it 5 5 evening touring norn Scotland fantastic no final push up to the crash in cat on lead out looking very very strong it must be said very strong uh C past 6 now dinner served at 700 so she’s obviously want to dinner 27 not far away very very quick turnaround for dinner tonight rolling in CR in cup of tea for me thanks day three in the final day looking absolutely see head beautiful out there today so far straight into a bog even the best of us has to walk fish flush Speed high speed telephone yeah I walked that one as well scary walking that one never mind riding it quite a testing first in here very boggy very wet quite a few Dismounts required ungraded gravel this I think I think you M what about this bit bit over an hour to do 5K but we’re on the call here to rain to improve we hope you’re okay go on release the [Music] brakes oh [Music] oh very sketchy Bridge very sketchy there’s just those they’re not really handh holds are they just like flapping in the wind okay oh my goodness [Music] me let me give you a [Music] hand let me get the bike if you just even hold the bike yeah okay yeah we’re good now are you okay you got the bike right thank you who idea would to go south side of [Music] lock past the building standard today this [Music] one STS so far 2 and half hours 12 half not gr three gra is [Music] [Laughter] it 3 and 1/4 hours 8 18 km later average speed 5.6 km hour about 4 and 1/2 hours until the train rolls out berso about 90 km to go mostly Road and decent gravel we hope let’s go kimra railway station just doing the Cs 3 and half hours 70k and big ta coming up that rain’s coming down 50k to go 2 and 1 half hours so if we can still say on 20K pH average we might just Nick in but it’s very much in the balance but for the moment nice little gravel climb up towards outter Breck hit the road and we have either 18K or 26k defending on Whose map you trust hoping it’s mine and about an hour maybe to get to tho hour course until the train leaves yeah but we need time we need time to get food oh it’s going to be a very long 4our journey home late time for tho here we are woo no idea what time it is I think we got time for a shot is very [Music] exciting
