Have you considered using your hands to pull the chain forward and place it on the chainring?

1. Push down and hold your rear derailleur to get more slack on the chain.
2. With your other hand, grab the chain
3. pull the chain over the top of the big chain ring
4. turn the crank clockwise until the chain is seated all the way around the chain ring.
