I like crates (with a cargo net on top). Very easy to just throw stuff in there and it looks cooler imo
Also panniers create extra drag

Personally I’m a pannier guy but my fiance is a milk crater. I prefer bags due to the extra storage options and ability to not have to carry anything extra if I don’t need them. The downside is you need specific bags for it. My fiance likes that she can just drop her whole backpack into the crate and go without worrying about anything extra. The downside is its mounted higher up and always something extra on the bike

I’m a pannier bag guy, mostly because keeping the weight lower to the ground (on the sides of the rack) helps me not to mess up the balance of my bike.
If you plan to only carry very light things, you’ll probably not notice a problem in the crate, though. And it’s hard to beat the simplicity of a crate!

I like the rear.basket just because I can use my existing backpack without any modifications. I will say that it makes it tricky to get your leg over and the center of gravity is noticeable.
If you are OK with getting a specialty pannier bag that is probably the better long-term option.
