Unless they’re all turning left in a block, I don’t agree with what I’m seeing here.

At least in CA there are certain circumstances to legally take the lane. This does not seem to be one of them.

Very arrogant crowd. I’m all for cyclist rights but if it is indeed a bike lane and not a shoulder (like OP repeatedly claims and puts in the photo), then grouping up in a 30mph zone is irresponsible, especially close to a light

  3. To be fair, you pay money as a car driver to be on the road (registration fees and such), and you don’t as a cyclist. The least they could do is not take up the whole lane.

Edit: the cyclist freaks have shown up to downvote

I’m sure there’ll still be people saying this is justified, that bike lanes are dangerous, that roads aren’t only for cars, yadda yadda yadda.

Assuming what is described here is the whole picture, then I just disagree with it: These people have the choice to contribute making traffic fluid by using the infrastructure that was specifically built for them, but chose not to.

Is it even a bike lane? It looks to me like a street shoulder dedicated to storm-drain infrastructure. That white line looks like a plain old fog line to me.

Does the street sign down the street a ways say anything about bikes? There certainly aren’t any bike logos stencilled on the concrete.

  6. In general, cyclists are entitled to thew whole lane if the deem it necessary, who is to say what is “necessary”. Based on what I see here, they should be in the bike lane, but at the end of the day, all any of them have to say is there was gravel, or glass, or it was too narrow, etc, so functionally they are entitled to the whole lane.

Share the road, its not that hard. You’ll make up your lost time in like 10 seconds after going around them safely.

  7. I don’t see this as irresponsible, it is way worse, a death wish. That is crazy. I have been hit 6 times, a couple of times I have made eye contact with the driver who hit me. Being hit will teach them.

  8. I looked through this person’s post history and what a surprise a libertarian in Dallas.

Not to burst anyone’s bubble, but legally, that is NOT a bike lane. The absolute minimum width to be considered a bike lane is 4 ft with no curb or guardrail, and 5 ft with a curb or guardrail. That is not 5 feet wide.

Painting the bike lane symbol in a non-bike lane does not make it a bike lane. So ‘dedicated bike lane’ is incorrect.

Should they be riding three abreast? If they aren’t impeding traffic, but they need to ride single file where it is SAFE for drivers to overtake them (by using some of the opposite lane).

  10. Might just be the photo, but it seems like that shoulder ends near where that big tree is. If so, they should be taking the lane before the shoulder ends on them.

Best if both motorists and bicyclists show courtesy to each other. If motorists keep a safe distance from bicyclists and cyclists allow cars to safely pass all should be well.

That’s a Group Ride. Everyone knows Group Rides are above law and order.

Ok I’m prepared to be downvoted.

But to tbf they are taking up the entire lane. When ever we ride in groups we are either single file or double stacked

  14. where I live a cyclist has the same rights as any other vehicle on the road so they can take up the center of it if it’s safer for them to do so

  15. Poor car brain probably can’t figure out why he’s being dragged and why they haven’t built a statue in his honor for pointing out the gross injustice of being delayed slightly.

  16. im ok with the pelotons on roads, but there are some roads i see these guys on and wonder what the fuck are you thinking? (and the club)

For those in Sydney, its Southern Cross Drive. A road that has Port and Airport freight, commuters, tired uber drivers, and cross city freeway traffic all coming together in one nice green fast sweeping road with blind corners many raging because of the sudden disorder in traffic conditions.

There’s been too many times where pelotons have been wiped out on it yet they continue to use it.

  17. I see six citizens on the road and you in a car probably by yourself, using the phone, probably illegal in your jurisdiction.

But then who’s to judge other than apparently yourself

  18. That’s no bike lane.
Go around them when it’s safe.
    Don’t create your own frustration.

  19. I ride every day, former messenger, been riding for 30 years and I hate this shit too. It just makes people more angry and aggressive towards us. Ride like you’re invisible, trust nobody, ignore the laws, but don’t take the whole fucking lane.
