  1. There is no certain knowledge about who was an actual inventor of bike coaster brakes yet. There are at least four names claimed to associated with that: Harry Pond Townsend, Alvin J. Musselman, Willard M. Farrow and William Robinson. But Harry Pond Townsend was a person who patented coaster bike brakes design for the first time ever on the April 9, 1907.
    The coaster brakes considered to be unsafe in some countries because they fail as soon as a bike chain comes off so all the kids bikes sold there must have a manual rim brake as well.
