good morning so today is day one sorry about the background noise my family are here we’re in Leo it’s time to start i’m feeling nervous it’s chucking it down with rain out there but luckily got me rain coat i’m not made of sugar paper so just got to get on with it shammy cream in a little tub bike’s ready bananas so today’s route is 145 miles stage one starts and finishes in Leon and then I’ve got a 25 mile transfer kyle’s the snackman while he’s there too deodorant wedding ring and engagement ring is off because my hands might swell up during this ride over the few days so best not to risk getting them stuck on car’s going to look after them very carefully
i’ve got a little jewelry box to put them in the paint bag right can we just go
5 minutes behind schedule already damn that’s lovely i can smell it i could hear it this morning when I was trying to sleep it’s my toilet
wind is nervous
it’s going to rain for the first 3 hours why is there a random breeze in here i’ve got a window
oh I think I had a little accident
i broke my toe that bad did you honestly oh dear
you broke it
are you just being so
You just blowing i’ve got a 1.6 km walk to the store and it’s chucking it down it’s horrible it’s not that bad not really
i’m not made of sugar paper so I’ll be all right let’s hope the roads aren’t slippy but it’s just a flat day today so starting off nice and easy i was trying to be a morning person aren’t you well I’m on the start line oh hello grand departs ready to go so 5th of July yeah that’s when they start is it that’s when they start
it’s the 27th of June today and I thought oh hang on jeez
can I go on one of them fast for a minute on that
anyway it’s time to go it’s 10 to 7 in the morning did want to leave at half six but you know it’s all right
sometimes doesn’t work out how you want everyone’s here to say goodbye
so I’ll see you at back in back at home Mom Dad and Molly
and Kyle I’ll see you in 65 miles from the food stop bye then i am off it’s happening this is where the pros will be riding when they leave leo stage one let’s do this probably not going to video as much as I usually do every day just so that Kyle’s not having to edit loads but I had to get the start and see that on the TV hopefully on the 5th of July but for now it’s just me myself and I one thing the pros won’t have to deal with is the red lights I’ve just had to go through everyone was red but you know it’s all good feel relaxed now that I’m off ready to do it i can’t believe I’m blooming doing it day one every stage of the men’s tour to France plus the transfers to raise money for shout mental health charity because when I started cycling I was really struggling so I want to give something back and do a hard challenge and definitely not going to be easy but I feel so much more relaxed now i’ve set off got a nice headwind to start the day but hopefully it’ll be a tailwind by the end so I’m not looking forward to going back through Leo later it was a nightmare this morning so it’s not going to be nice later when it’s busy but not think about that now 10 miles at a time actually no 50 miles at a time 10 miles is a bit too short there’s not many climbs today just nine on the first stage not sure if there’s any on my transfer later but they’re not too bad this is the worst one of the day it’s got a lot of red on it but it’s not very long so I’m sure it’ll be fine compared to what I’ve got coming up in the Alps it’s like a grain of sand this is so 0.5 miles 253 ft do less than 100 m and less than a kilometer i don’t I’m not very good at converting so yeah so I got to the top a nice surprise at the top there’s that kind of some sort of castle thing behind the trees i’ll stop there for a quick photo got to take the opportunities my aim is to try and enjoy this trip as much as I can it’s not going to be easy but while I’m fresh I’ll stop for a pick make sure I’m drinking enough and Kyle’s going to be meeting me 65 miles in to give me some food and then I think he might go to the accommodation and ride out to meet me later but look it’s really nice some guards but be careful cuz he might wonder what I’m doing world quick photo oh it looks like a actually it’s a war memorial it’s really nice well it puts things in perspective when you look at that what I do on that challenge is nothing compared to what some people have done so absolutely nothing that puts things into perspective definitely right quick photo and carry on [Music] i feel calm now for the first like 20 miles I was feeling really edgy but I’m calm now i’m settled i can do this one day at a time not thinking about tomorrow or the next day but this is really nice up here i’m 40 mil in what’s that in kilometers 40 50 about 64 km i do do mile do hope not doing any doodoo i work in miles and feet but I am going to change the kilometers and meters for this trip because it does make more sense all the road signs are in kilometers and I am in France so I’ll officially move to kilometers from tomorrow because at the minute my Garmin is still in miles and I don’t want to be thinking about converting so yeah tonight the Garmin’s going to kilometers 20 minutes now from where Kyle’s meeting me so got some peanut butter pitters and these little apple pots that I love that they only do in France so that’ll be a lunch stop i’ll be 65 miles in by then so over halfway through stage one but not over halfway through my ride because I’ve got 25 mile transfer to do after so that’s all good i’m so so grateful for Kyle supporting me with this i mean I wouldn’t be able to do it without him so I’m really really grateful that he is literally being like the best husband ever driving around feeding me cheering me on well I hope that’s what he’s going to do anyway he’s going to ride the mountains with me ride little bits where he can because obviously he doesn’t want to have a whole month of no riding so yeah I’m very lucky and I appreciate him so much so little shout out to you Ky Kyle i was trying to say hero and Kyle at the same time not all heroes wear capes somewhere like right well Kyle was where he said he was and I’ve got two peanut butter splitters and two little pomies
pom yogurts
ty let’s get you on the cam mean man
how are you i thought I’d do put a t-shirt on for you so
don’t overthink it
good idea how long have you been waiting here for me about half an hour
i had to find a shot obviously getting out of here was a bit of a pain
found a shot got some water topped up on that obviously had a blue lines ready for breakfast
did you What did you have
i did it with your mom and your dad though
did you had a couple of quants started the tally
was it chaos with mom and dad
yeah it was too bad to be fair they had to leave quite a similar sort of time to me so you will help me there’s a car pat down there
there’s a pat
weren’t you was it
big Pat that was me
anyway get this down we got 55 miles left of stage one and then 20 miles 25 miles after
24 miles got about 80 miles to go
smashing it feeling good
good you’ll be done in no time 5 hours timeish a bit longer than that I think
maybe 6 hours i went past the war memorial this morning
did you
did you have a look
mhm you got stopped not sure
not stopped apart from there
okay
sorry just studying my way at the minute yeah so I have to spray myself down now right c just taking me order for dinner today’s reminder list i’m going to have notes each day
what is it what’s on it take GoPro battery once you’ve had your lunch by the way
don’t need it it’s really good battery you’ve had your apple yogurt you had your pters you’ve had water
drink that water for me please and I’ll top your water up
right ch
from shop what would you like i know you want We need to get some veg going to have tuna pasta which you think will be good
oh some chopped tomatoes too in it
chopped tomatoes yeah
maybe like some peas or but any veg really any green
no no just written veg cuz I know what veg
nice veg and that’s it is it
snacks any like afters exactly what you want then
sure
got loads of snacks if you see anything you think also like that you can treat me but I’m happy with that okay so I’m not going to see you for a while now thought you doing great oh you got eight tomorrows to go
i need to write a list of what you’ve eaten today so far as well
oh yeah we’re going to have a tally of everything I’ve eaten and then I’ll put it in my book when I’ve written one i’ve eaten in a minute porridge with peanut butter
with peanut butter mhm and a P with peanut butter for breakfast i’m going to turn into a peanut butter p i’ve eaten banana a big oat bar two peanut butter pitters actually an SIS blueberry oat bar to be specific cuz we can have a tally and then two of these
sis eight bar sas blueberry and then two of these
two two palm yogurts
mhm
anyway I’m going to whack these down and get on with it i’m faffing around now
no time
might keep my rain jacket with me actually i think it could rain again
what have you got to take with you now so you got banana
we got a banana
how many you got left
i’ve got um beta fuel shoes
yeah and I’ve got um peanut butter and dark chocolate peanut butter again peanut butter and dark chocolate protein bar 1 2 3 4
maybe take another bar as well
two bars
yeah you’re on safe
yeah that was a nice little mood boost had a nice 20 minute stop i just feel so much safer like I’m not worried because I know that Kyle’s here he might he might be like an hour away or two hours away at some points but he he’s here like if I need him he’ll drive to me so I’m okay so yeah it just really puts my mind at rest but on I go i love being in the country that is literally the home of cycling look at this for a good quality cycle path doublesided super safe and all the drivers are so nice like everyone gives you so much room it’s just great really i just went past a sign that said palm dare apples of the earth basically pad doors oh polka dots just getting a free sports massage for the legs on the cobbles loving Nora jeez nice vibration going through my legs at least it’s probably getting rid of any lactate that’s built up jeez they look nice and calm and they are calm cobbles compared to Py Rose but still feel them yippee woohoo i’m in a place called La Trump or in other words La Trump but Kyle’s not here so it’s not living up to its name at the minute bonjour mate well thank you very much Messy Boo oh should have bought one of my stickers to stick on that sign oh well saving them for the big mountains but that was a nice little burner there was a school trip of kids or don’t know what they were doing but like a little Yeah group of school kids with the teachers going al up the climb so that was nice woohoo 100 miles down oh yeah 100 miles down today 45 mi to go and 3,980 mi to go alto together but let’s not think about that right now yeah 160 km down from tomorrow I’ll be in kilometers kilome but yeah got to change my garment but that feels nice 100 miles first milestone of many to come just gone through this little village nope nap they have really gone to town with their decorations they had a really good roundabout but I couldn’t video because obviously I was cycling but this is their little little sign as you go in i was a bit worried cuz there was a route diversion but luckily I was able to get through on the pavement i think the relay and the road ready for to front so yeah anyway better get on with it i’m about 11 miles away from Leo now about 16 about 17 or 18 km i’ve got confirmation that Kyle’s cycling to meet me i’ve just seen he’s put it on his Instagram story so he must have made it to the accommodation okay so that’s good i’m feeling really good just feeling happy that I’ve set off and kind of just been riding along thinking this is not going to be easy because today is a really easy day compared to what I’ve got coming up so yeah just trying to focus on keeping it nice and steady it doesn’t matter how long each day takes it’s about getting it done and being able to go on again the next day so eating lots drinking lots yeah just making sure to be sensible but so far so good stage one is nearly complete nearly termin yeah I think that’s right oh we got another fresh charm at road ready for the pros ready for pagatra and bingards and all the rest of them it was actually a route bar but the uh builder said I could go through he said on entra i don’t know what he said but he said basically pointed this way and said off you go so I said missu or I don’t think I’m very good at pronouncing that i think it’s more like miss not you know anyway I’ve got a whole month here so I can perfect it i’m back in Leo the land of red lights someone’s playing some tunes oh hang on we’re on green we’re on vert let’s go i’m on the finishing straight the finish is literally just here it’s not a very exciting finish but hopefully the pros won’t have loads of traffic lights to stop them in their sprinting efforts cuz literally this is the finish of this traffic light here so stage one is Finny so stage one is Finny and Jesse happy veo’s happy this little kid just went past and went “Oh the Veil is super.” Like yes it is um I’m not sure if Kyle’s meant to be meeting me here or if he’s on his way so I’ve just loaded up the rest of the route it’s 23 miles now 23 and a half miles to go i’ve done 121 and a half so Mayor Pips week back to not back but to the accommodation we’re staying in tonight i’ll uh give Kyle a little bell see if I should give him a bell now on the Cammy although if he’s if he’s riding he won’t be able to answer will he so let’s give him a quick call and see what happens it’s on a scooter i need a we just realized I have to find to cross next hia where are you on your way should I start the transfer where are you
i finished stage one so should I
So should I start the transfer stage yeah you should do yeah
yeah cuz you’re Are you following my transfer the opposite way [Music] so um
I was hoping you were going to be leaving a few times before I got here okay perfect so I’ll start the transfer now then all right then love you bye right he’s on his way so I’ll start riding and he’ll meet me on the way so I’m now on the transfer just in case anyone doesn’t know what I’m doing I’m riding every stage of the men’s tour and I’m also riding the transfers in between right I just met these lovely fellas give them a wave say hi on the YouTube nice to hear some English voices so yeah but they’re riding stage one tomorrow it’s a nice stage and there’s plenty of bakeries so enjoy
right
see you enjoy you too
oh they were nice their bike packing so they’ve just ridden they rode to Dover and they’ve rode from Cali to here and they’re riding stage one tomorrow and then riding home so they were lovely it’s always nice to meet people on the way i always love that about a bike ride you never know who you’re going to meet so that was really nice and they’re doing it for prostate cancer so really good charity so that was nice just when I thought I was never going to get out of Leo there’s so many red lights this little fellow was waiting on the corner for me you all right Kyle yeah how far we’ve got 21 miles on you got me some
i am
thank you
i don’t buy a water bottle put the bottle in there
oh there’s loads of water bottles in the car right we better keep going it’s horrible like getting out of here there’s so many lights it’s just like every single light is red kyle not
Oh god i came down here this morning i’ve got deja vu oh can you open it for me i thought we got a lot of things just the two of us i told Kylie he has to stay behind me or next to me cuz I don’t want to cheat and have a draft so I might change that by the end of the trip but for now we’re sticking with that i wouldn’t blame you for sitting behind no it’s all right we’ve got a headwind but I want to do it myself so
we do change though
so you’re either next to me or behind me
i had a headwind on the way out so it’s not a headwind
feels like a headwind
i know i had been on the way out as well
so this is where stage two starts tomorrow and it’s only 2 miles from where we’re staying so so I’ll be here tomorrow morning Kyle stopping just stopped for a quick pick by the Malio Jin that’s what it is isn’t it Kyle yellow jersey

no not to cross anything
okay keeping it for me day two oh it’s worse than I thought 188.4 miles i thought it was only 170 not loads of elevation though is it 44 miles further than today elevation um more than today
it will be more cuz there’s more distance
10,000 ft tomorrow I’ll stay on the dogma i was going to go on the arrows but without 10,000 ft of climbing I think I’ll stick
10,000 ft 10,000 ft
what’s that at 3,000 mters it’s pretty flat for 184 88 miles but I think I’d stay on the dogma for that cuz there is going to be some climbing look it’s up to you but I would stay on the dogma
stay on the dogma
what’s day three looking at cuz then maybe you could go on that one
day three day three I’m definitely going on the arrow bar the gravel bike cuz that’s flatter i don’t want to look at that yet i’m just upset cuz I thought I literally was riding along oh tomorrow I’ve only got 30 extra 30 miles 188 and it’s 10,000 ft how many feet did you say turn the pedal
how many feet did you say
i don’t know
3,000 4,000 no more than that was it
4,000 something yeah so double anyway
but more distance
let’s not think about that right now all we need to do now is stretch each
and we’re doing it for a good cause oh should I check the donations

  1. Good luck. We'll watch you as you go. Enjoy it. Keep going. Grit your teeth.
Well done to you too Kyle. Super supportive.
My wife and I have been enjoying your channel.

  2. This is mega, keeping up with the little dot! Also agree with another comment, be good to see updates from Kyle’s perspective!👌 well edited so good job Kyle 👍

  3. Well, done "team Amy". Stay steady no rush, you will click off the milonies and kilometers quicker than you think. We are all cheering for you. Can't wait for your next etappe – "go Amy". TTFN.

  4. You’ll nail this Amy. I’ve watched you from the beginning and you are so strong and capable. I’ll be watching every day so keep it rubber side down and the very best of luck.
PS Kyle you’re a legend mate.

  5. Great work Amy…..One thing I will mention is that at some stage you will have to hand over every bit of the decision making to Kyle and just "turn off" at the end of each day. Accumulated mental fatigue is a thing as well and can derail an extended challenge just as much as physical fatigue can…..These videos are just what I need for motivation two weeks before I head off on my own 'round Australia charity ride…Keep up the great work, the both of you.

  6. Talking about miles v kms when you get to the Pyrenees the markers are in km so it makes more sense. In awe of what you are doing. Have ridden in the Pyrenees a few times but usually only one climb like the Tourmalet or Luz Ardiden with no crazy miles and other mountains. Good look to you.
