Day 12 | Cycling London to Spain: We lose motivation as the scenery fades then Otie gives us a sign

we’re Alex and Selena Matty We’re cycling all the way from London to Northern Spain in memory of our son Otus Z Matty This is where we are right now So far we’ve cycled 720 km We’ve got 680 remain We’re working with some incredible children’s charities and so far we’ve raised £34,000 In this episode as the scenery begins to fade so does our motivation Until we’re blessed with a sign from OT [Music] Day three of Hell Week day 12 Overall 93 km which I think will probably end up being our biggest day yet

Got a pool waiting for us at our hotel today So that’s something to strive for
Yeah yesterday was good Let’s try and make it good day [Music] We’ve done 35k 20k left [Music] and then after that another 40k
Oh my god [Music] We’ve done 55k of the most boring stretch of road imaginable There is nothing to film so I’ll save you the hassle No

Yeah Neither does it Oh my god I don’t know what it is On a day like this It’s just putting in the miles basically every you know 10 minutes that ticks by Nothing really happens And it just reminds me of when we were in hospital We were there for 120 days And you just got to turn up look after Otus best you can make the most out of every day and just basically just say you got to get through this day and then the next and the next And it’s very monotonous but similar right
not every day was you know a big step forward or something special like the sensory room or taking him to the park Some days just were and some days were hard really hard And we had to just be there for him I have never seen this many sunflowers in my whole life Far as I can see there all the way around to there Absolutely incredible
It’s like is saying like keep going
Keep going guys This is a hard day We got you There must be about 5 million sunflowers here And sunflowers are very special to us They were the flowers at our wedding but they were also the flowers at Otie’s memorial cuz obviously he’s a yellow boy He loves yellow And it just feels like he is with us [Music] So we got about 20k left

And This is the hard bit where we both get delirious
I know It’s so hot now And my butt just doesn’t even know it’s a butt anymore I feel like we just sat in a ditch right now
We are sat in a ditch Everyone’s probably looking at us like
“So they need help.”
Sava We’ve got about 10k left And there’s a deviation on the track which means we have to get this terrible terrible ground It’s horrible And we’re so tired We’ve done 84 km Oh my god it’s tough It’s like cycling over just a million rocks This is one of those times where you probably don’t want to be filmed But how do you feel [Laughter] we have got 7 km left but there’s no getting around it 94 km is a bloody long way to go Okay Well done Tough by the end wasn’t it
