So he's seen that everyone else has one and wants to carry his own water bottle. The bike is a second hand 20" Carrera Abyss (Halfords) and there's no obvious places.
Sadly he is not entirely happy to accept the benefits of other people carrying his water and wants upgrades!
He also wants some kind of storage option/bag instead/as well.

you can get ones that attach to the saddle, comon for time trials
Try an ABC cage with the Anywhere Cage strap adapter. It straps to any frame tube up to 5 inches. Perfect for 20 inch bikes.
Would recommend a handlebar adapter, something like this from Decathlon allows you to mount a standard bottle holder to the bars.

Fit one to the top tube. There are options to clamp to tubes without threads. Otherwise a triathlon bottle holder for behind the saddle but not sure if that would fit and would probably be challenging for a kid to access during the ride. Depending on the chosen bottle holder option slap a saddle bag or top tube bag on it for ‚luggage‘
If there’s no room for a bolt on bottle cage, then look at a strap on stem bag/feed bag ([example](https://a.co/d/huhOs8P)). For extra storage, a top tube bag ([example](https://a.co/d/9qIhJP4)).

And if you look up saddle bags you find various options that tuck behind the seat.
Get a kickstand, fenders, a rack, and one open pannier on one side. Then your son can toss a water bottle in the pannier along with a backpack or a bag of groceries or whatever.
