I've had my Aeroad for a few days now and every time I drive over bumps the chain hits the strut. Is this normal or perhaps incorrectly shortened? does anyone have experiences
This happens to me a lot with my Ultimate. I am also wondering if that’s normal.

The top part of the chain line should be under tension as you pedal, therefore preventing slapping. do you often coast?

Depends on the bump and how fast you are. It can happen, that’s why you have a protective film on there

This is normal especially when in small cogs at the back. Particularly on Shimano RDs. You can try adding tension with b-limit screw if chain is correct length but overly slack

Most common things that contribute to chain slapping:
– Derailleur clutch not ON (for more tension)
– Check if the chain has the correct length. It’s not unuasual that a standard chainlength is applied. But frame sizes and cogs differ a little. For example: https://share.google/eAfUGLaZRtZXr9rrz
– Maybe there is to much wear, but that shouldnt be the case with a new bike
– Technique before hitting a pothole or something. Some tend to do a little backstroke to position the feet. This can cause slack.

GL!
Use the big chainring unless you’re climbing
