noticed on my ride today. haven't been riding super aggressive, just a couple bumpy roads and small potholes. Surely the bottom bracket area wouldn't crack less than a week of riding? Did the coin test, sounds mostly the same/consistent and im 95% sure its just paint but i need a second opinion. if it is a crack to the carbon hopefully canyon can do something lol.

That’s not a paint crack. That’s the cabon cracking! They required me to send the bike back and took 3 weeks to agree its the carbon. Sent a new bike back.

just got my fork to a carbon-repair-shop cause i was paranoid too. The shop does carbon-repair for the national bike-team

He took that shit and bended it a few centimeters. I was freezed when i saw it, but nothing happened. He says that carbon makes a sound if its cracked

Carbon is really strong, it just cant survive damage from the outside, like if you kick it or crash it. you know unnaturally damage. bumps its really good at absorbing

I would not be worried if i was you

  3. Do all Canyons just crack? I’m waiting for it to happen to my grizl. Of all the bike pages and subreddits I’m on, Canyon takes the cake on the number of cracked frames I’ve ever seen

This does look a bit suspicious, but it’s not necessarily a reason to panic.
I have the same model and also noticed some minor paint cracks at the seat tube junction. In that area, the carbon flexes quite a bit, and the thick white paint can develop fine surface cracks, barely visible and purely cosmetic.

However, the cracks in your picture appear different and could potentially indicate carbon damage.

If you’re unsure or worried, the safest option is to send the frame to Canyon for inspection.

If you’d prefer to keep riding until the end of the season, I would suggest documenting the damage carefully and re-checking it regularly visually and with a simple tap test. It seems like you know how that works.

If the damage doesn’t change over time and the tap test stays consistent, riding should be relatively low risk. If anything worsens visually or acoustically stop riding and send it to Canyon.

Personally, I wouldn’t be too worried. It’s quite unlikely that the heavily reinforced area around the bottom bracket would suffer a catastrophic failure through all layers especially if the damage is closely monitored.
