I’m doing a 62 mile gravel ride next month, wanted some beefier tires. It’s like I went from a speedy truck to an older Cadillac. The ride is so smooth, but it takes much more effort to move. I didn’t go tubeless yet, so I can play with the air pressure to remedy this a bit.
Tires are American West Wentworths. They look great and fit perfectly. Bike is the State 6061 All-Road.

What pressure were you running the 38s and what pressure are you now running the 50s?
45s are the way and tubeless
Waterton?
What kind of 38s did you run? The 50s might be a little heavier and sluggish to accel. Cruising speed should improve for you over the long haul and help abate fatigue. Definitely go tubeless. It’ll go from old Cadillac to a CTS Wagon Rally Edition.
Should have went 2.1 big dog. Are your brakes the hydraulic/cable system or just mechanical? I have the same bike wondering if you got it dialed in.
Hello Waterton Canyon
Hey. I know that canyon. I’m the guy on the mtb smashing down that for a trophy lol
I like the American Classic tires. I haven’t tried Wentworth but I have the Aggregate and the Krumbien both in 50s. they are both slow getting up to speed.
The Aggregate may be a touch faster looking at my times from Gravel Locos.
The Krumbien are beasts though, they handle their own on rocky southwest single track.
What does this mean?
I’m new to gravel cycling and have hit up Waterton a few times, is there any other trails as good as this near Denver?
38-42MM, Tubeless, run the right pressure for your internal rim width. You’ll feel faster.
Full disclosure, I come from a CX background, anything over 42 looks like a fat bike to me. My CX/GX bike is still 33MM file on all terrain.
I’m running 45s in the back tubeless and 50s in the front tubeless. I found it to be a happy medium.
I all about that frame color
45mm Conti Terra Speeds, tubeless ofc, at around 30 psi. They are the best tire I’ve tried on the Front Range.
