Hi

My gf came back earlier from the shop with her new bike (Orbea Orca if that matters), and only rode the 4 to 5km to home. Today I stripped the bike off of its chain to degrease and wax it.

While it was chainless,, I played with the di2 and spinned the bottom bracket. While it's not the smoothest I've seen (normal if you consider it's brand new), I'm a bit concerned about the rattling noise (listen to the video).

I'm confused as to why? Too much pre-load? wires rattling inside the frame?

Should she have it checked at the bike store or just ride it until it goes away (if it ever does)?

TIA

New bike: bad bottom bracket?

If you don’t feel any resistance or hear specific noises… just let her ride the thing!

Edit: video has sound. I stand corrected. Return the bike to the shop and let her ride your bike.

  2. Looks good to me. You have to remember the forces that are applied to a crankset and the bottom bracket has to be relatively low tolerance for any play so they won’t just spin endlessly. That seems totally normal to me.

Might be harmless, but I’ve never heard that before, and I wouldn’t like it.

Are the chainring teeth brushing the derailleur?

Some teeth protrude a little more. Could be that.

Also intrigued that when it comes to a stop, the drive side drops down. It shouldn’t exert more of a force than the non drive side. It’s like that crank arm is heavier that the nds. 🤷🏼‍♂️

  5. It does sound like a chainring rubbing on something, or way too much preload.
Like others have said, I would take it back to the shop before riding it again. If you want to do a little diagnostic work you can look to see if the front derailleur is rubbing on the inner ring. If the sound seems to be coming from there and not from the BB itself it is a fairly easy adjustment. However you should make sure the shop makes it right, even if you are comfortable fixing it yourself. Anything inside the frame of bearing they definitely should fix.

  6. What if the plastic sheel was deformed and not lined up correctly it would then hit the spindle right or at least rattle

  7. Reinstall the bb, sounds like it was greased or something. Ain’t too hard but you can take it back go the shop too.

Maybe the plastic funnel connection between the shells. If it came loose it might make a rattle sound.

If you remove the crank, things will become clear.

The sleeve for BB hitting the axel if theres a sleeve fitted , my evo386 BB has no sleeve but clicked from new, I removed the crank and refitted it and it was fine.

  10. If you don’t have the tools to take the cranks off yourself and take a look inside the bb shell/at the bb bearings I would take it back to the shop. Definitely not a normal sound.

  11. Something is rubbing on the crank spindle. Either Di2 cables or the BB sleeve that got dislodged somehow. Let’s hope that it’s the latter.

  12. Thanks all!

Drive side bearing is rattly, doesn’t feel as smooth as you’d expect from a new one, and makes some noise.

Will have it handled at the shop then!

  13. Sounds like a carnival Wheel of Fortune. It’s a bad assembly job. Let the LBS fix it.

It could have been pressed in poorly. It easy to push them in off center If you don’t pay attention.

    That must be it then

    I wouldn’t say so
Edit: I didn’t have sound on, I’d take it back to the shop you bought it at
