Giant. Will give you more flexibility in every aspect of building it up and riding it.
Only if you are looking purely for on-road riding (not even city) AND are especially fond of this particular period Winora bike, you might want to decide otherwise. And, of course, if price is a matter.

The Terrago would be perfect. Big tyres and rack mounts are a must, also it looks to be in really good nic.
I hope you’ve got a decent lock too

is that the exact Giant you’re buying? if it’s the one in the picture, it has been heavily upgraded and modernized

Giant. for me i’d have to add suspension fork and suspension seatpost, shorter stem, 90mm riser bar, comfier saddle. Im a bit heavier so those bumps really hurt my wrists and ass.

The Giant!

The giant has been upgraded and modernized quite a bit . The other bike looks nice as well but has lots of old parts on it. For components and ride I’d go with the mtb personally

Giant for multiple reasons but mostly to avoid the downtube shifters

Sizing, sizing, sizing!!! Which one fits? The Giant looks pretty sweet, but if it’s too small, then you will hate it.
Despite being biased toward MTB frames in general (after all, this is *xbiking*!), I’d choose the Giant for these four reasons:
1. A more relaxed, upright riding position is more comfortable and gives you a better view of your surroundings. It also helps you stay visible to others in traffic.
2. Where I live, many streets are still cobblestone or just horribly patched, with lots of potholes. It’s really uncomfortable on a road bike’s narrow tires.
3. A wider handlebar offers more stability—especially when filtering through traffic at low speeds, like moving to the front of the line at a red light, or when you need to hop onto the sidewalk to avoid a roadblock.
4. Shifters on the handlebar are a must. I shift gears a lot in the city, and reaching for downtube shifters can delay braking in a potential emergency.

Which do you like better? This Ford Bronco or this Mazda Miata? I mean, they are drastically different bikes.
The Giant seems more in line with the typical bike in this sub.. old MTB, cantis, fun colors.

This sub is going to be heavily biased toward the giant. For me in an urban environment for daily commuting I’d go for the road bike all day every day though. It depends to some extent on your needs, but I don’t (often) carry so much that I can’t use a backpack or messenger bag. After many, many years of year-round commuting in Minneapolis I’m team road bike/efficiency and speed without those constraints.

I prefer flat or upright handlebars for city riding.

Whichever fits best. Else Giant for bigger tires. Leave room in budget for stem & bars experiments.
