The Most Beautiful, Easy Bike Ride (No Experience Needed): Lake Annecy

Cycling around Lake Annecy has got to be one of the most exceptional routes that anyone can do. I rented my bike from Cyclable at Place aux Bois, right on the edge of the lac loop cycle path. Clockwise is definitely the better direction, so you can make the most of the gradual hill up and enjoy a nice switchback down. The switchback is on the road but almost the entire rest of the route is a dedicated cycle path!

The bike was only €16 for two hours and only €22 for 2-4 hours (at time of filming). I did this ride in exactly two hours, but I definitely recommend taking longer and stopping at one of the beaches.

Cannot get over this at all [Music] okay guys I am in Annecy in France at the 
foothills of the French Alps i have hired an absolute classic tourist bike it’s got a basket 
on front oh my god it’s amazing i’ve just hired it for half a morning for reasons I will explain 
later but I’ve just started so I’ve started in the center of Annecy it’s early in the morning it’s 
not early in the morning it’s half 9 which was the earliest I could find a bike bike shops do 
not open early here unfortunately but it’s going to be 33 degrees today so I had to get out early 
because otherwise I’m going to roast [Music] I apologize for the wind, I’m doing the classic 
Tour du Lac, which is a full circular route around the lake it’s pretty much traffic free the whole way 
although obviously as you can see it’s alongside a road in some parts of it it’s 40 km it’s almost 
flat it’s like 300 m of elevation gain and all basically in one place i’m doing it clockwise 
because of the hill uh the person who rented me the bike suggested that clockwise was a nicer 
way of doing it so that’s what I’m going to do also this was a complete accident 
but my bike matches my outfit finally what’s so incredible about uh Lake Annecy it’s 
not that it’s so huge although it is massive is that the water is so turquoise it looks fake 
it’s absolutely absurd. As some of you may have worked out I lost my job a couple of months ago unfortunately so I’ve had a bit more time recently to explore different places and that’s 
how I found myself in Annecy, studying French for the next 3 weeks because you know when you’re laid 
off you need something productive to do while you’re applying for jobs that you don’t get any 
responses from #notbitter but it does give me a great opportunity to uh learn French and cycle 
around the lake honestly I’ve never ridden a bike like this before like not as an adult anyway 
and it’s so civilized it’s hilarious just so funny to ride quite an upright bike with a basket 
and everything i feel I don’t know like a lady Getting to the top of the hill which 
isn’t actually much of a hill but on a very heavy bike it is more of a 
hill than perhaps as good for 25° have you ever seen water this 
blue it is majestic. woohoo cannot get over this at all now I’m coming to 
the very end of the lake um and I will carry on going on the other side the reason why I 
wanted to hire this particular kind of bike like just your average tourist bike you know 
€20 whatever was because I wanted to show that anyone can do this particular ride in all my 
videos I’m basically riding drop bar gravel bikes road bikes whatever um which I know a lot 
of people aren’t actually comfortable with so for this one I wanted to just ride a plain 
old bog standard rental bike with a basket and show that anyone can do it obviously 
rent ebikes really easily here like a lot of people on ebikes everywhere that rents bikes 
rents ebikes too and they’re not that much more expensive so that is also a fantastic option 
if you’re not used to cycling you know 40 km while there are some chicanes and stuff 
like that I don’t think there’s anything that would stop you taking a hand cycle 
on this route either that I can think of so that plus ebikes plus every other 
kind of bike you can imagine to rent here makes this very doable for pretty 
much most people look at this mountain This is incredible this has got to be 
one of my favorite cycle routes I’ve done in a kind of gentle way you know like it’s not a 
challenge it’s just endlessly beautiful and it’s perfect cycle route to stop off go to the 
beach like beach you know like parkside beach um and go swimming in the lake as well 
which I will absolutely do later tonight but I have to kind of hoon it round so it’s going 
to take me about 2 and a half hours um but I have to then get back up to where I’m staying have 
a shower get changed get my stuff and then go straight to French class hopefully consuming 
some kind of food on the way so I don’t have time to go swimming unfortunately but I highly 
recommend you do especially when it’s this hot. It just keeps going, it’s absolutely 
extraordinary 20 whole kilometers just completely separate cycle route on 
on this side of the lake it’s magical [Music] and that was the Tour du Lac in 
Annecy by tourist bike oh yeah
