488 off-road kilometers in 30 hours almost non-stop this is the Great British Escapade we set off from Canterbury at 5:00 p.m and flew along the Pilgrim’s Way with a 200 km run to the first checkpoint as with every ultracling event I’ve ever done I got way too excited and went out way too hard before raining it back in a little bit for the night shift i rolled into checkpoint one 9 hours later at 2:00 a.m for my first quick 5-minute break ready for the rest of the night riding with the fluids topped up I was heading straight towards the South Downs Way for the hardest section of the route i spent the whole night thinking about the stunning views I’d get to see and record on my lovely new Insta3 Ace Pro 2 but I was instead greeted by fog and rain that reduced visibility to almost zero in some sections i’ve done the South Downs way a few times now but nothing prepares you for how brutal it is relentless vertical climbs and then bone shaking rocky descents over and over and over and over a few hours of sheep cow and horse dodging later and I reached CP2 with only 155 km to go with only a slight tire and tube malfunction costing me 90 minutes of FAF time i was questioning my sanity when I came across a submerged car that looked suspiciously similar to some previous sleep deprivation induced hallucinations but apparently it was real i finally made it back to HQ at 11 p.m 30 hours after setting off ready for a nap
