Hey everyone, I’d really appreciate your advice regarding the size of my Canyon Ultimate CF 7.
📏 My height: 178–179 cm ~5’8”
🚴♂️ Inseam: around 85 cm
📐 According to Canyon’s size chart, I’m right between a size S and M. I was advised to go for a size S, with the idea that it’s usually better to size down a bit. Previously, I rode a Merida size L, which was clearly too big for me—maybe that’s why this one feels a bit small now.
I’ve attached a couple of photos of me riding, and I’d love your opinion on whether:
The bike looks like the right size for me
It’s just my position that needs tweaking (stem, saddle, etc.)
The S frame is actually too small for me and if I should return it and go for a size M instead . Thanks a lot for your feedback!

I had the same situation with my Ultimate, I was between M and L.
***I’m just sharing my case, my recomendation is finding a professional bikefit.***
I chose the M, some days laters my back was hurting a lot, so I did a bike fit, the physiotherapist explained that both sizes could fit me. **BUT** it would depend on my flexibility, and goal.
**M:**
I would be more agressive and the bike feel more agile, but I would have to train my flexibility constantly, as the size would demand an agressive ride, making it hard to keep long distances if I don’t make any strength training.
I would also need to change the cockpit from 100mm to 120mm.
**L:**
I would lose just a bit of agressive/attack “feeling” on the bike, but I woudn’t need to change any part and I could ride long distances as it would have a more relaxed position.
I just changed the cockpit, and started flexibility trainings. For long distances I use my gravel (size L).

*My opinion based on the pictures that you shared*, it seems that your upperbody tend to be more relaxed on the bike, so maybe a M could be more confortable. A bikefit would be the way.
I think the sizing looks OK – maybe post a pic in aero position (hands on hoods, elbows bent close to 90 degrees)? Is saddle setback set to where you want it? Your arms are also locked out in all of the pictures, which can make it harder to judge positioning
Im in the exact same boat as you. I’m waiting for my bike to come in. I have similar measurements as you, and the Canyon size chart had me at an S. I’m hoping the bike will come in today or tomorrow.
178cm is 5’10 to 5’11. Keep in mind the ultimate has an aggressive racing geometry, so you’re going to be in an aero position. Your third picture looks fine to me. Head over to r/bikefit if you want more advice.
