I was sent this follow drone so I finally got to test it out. Works great in the cut block. No so great in tight trees.
Trail is High Hopes just north of Whistler. It’s a Goldilocks trail. Has a bit of everything 🤘🏻
I re rode without the drone the second time. Much faster!

What you mean without drone you much faster? Does this drone slow you down somehow?
Or you have to drive slowly so the drone can follow ?
What happens when you speed up to 5mph?
Ugh…that’s the last thing I want is the annoying noise of these shitty things. All for footage that no one gives a shit about.
This looks like some fun riding, where is this?
Quality is super good on drone too, how fast can it go and does it have sensors to avoid obstacles?
I got to demo one of these at a festival. They’re pretty cool.
Here’s a vid testing it in a wooded trail. 5 min descent turned into a 30+ mins of slowing down and looking for the drone in the grass 😁
Albeit very cool it doesn’t really work well enough so that you can just ride – you always need to be mindful of speed in turns as it drifts/oversteers right into trees.

A much better use case is in open places where only the wind messes it up:

Idk if it’s worth the money tbh 🤷♀️
What’s the climb like? I live in Whis and am getting a little tired of the same runs over and over again
Song?
Looked like a whole lotta fun
I was at a weeding last week and one of the guests decided to invite his 15 y.o. to “gift” the couple with drone footage of the wedding. The idiot was flying close to everyone in the audience, hit the master of ceremony in the hair, about 5cm from her eyes. Almost hit a few other people after that, not having learned the lesson. Left the drone hovering at eye level while he was looking at something else.
My house is within a “red area” where it’s absolutely forbidden to fly a drone because of the hospital heliport 500m away from here. Still every week there’s a new newbie who does that anyway in despite of the DJI app warning them that they are not allowed and might put other people in danger.
Most people who own drones do not understand how much these things are dangerous and annoying. People operating them are not good pilots nor good camera operators and almost always get shitty footage anyway.
Having a half-autonomous one on the trail means you risk hitting someone with its blades with potentially high consequences, or that people have to keep a distance because they don’t want to risk.
