Here is my idea how to securely attach the Hiplok D1000/DX1000 lock to your Brompton using the newly released BR1000 mounting bracket that works with Klickfix products. The oversized Klickfix caddy fits the Brompton frame, allowing to attach the bracket perpendicularly to the frame. This allows you to install the lock vertically on the left side of the bike, close to the frame folding point. Annoyingly, few places sell the oversized version and I had to get it from Gemany to the UK.

Based on a short test ride, it's sufficiently out of the way as to not interfere with the pedalling. You can move it further away from your foot by attaching the lock the other way around to the bracket, so that it's pointing up rather than hanging down. It fits very snugly to the bracket.

The fold remains unaffected, but access to the hinge lever is a bit restricted, and the shorter arm of the lever feels a bit too short. If both arms of the lever were of the same length as the longer one, I believe there would be no material difference to ease of operation. Preemptively, I don't think you can move the bracket further up the frame tube as it would be in the way of the wheel resting on the frame when folded, potentially risking some unpredictable damage in the long run. (BTW, if anyone knows about inexpensive hinge levers that are longer than the stock Brompton ones, please share.)

  1. I forgot to add, the screws provided with the Klickfix caddy are absolute garbage, and I ended up having to buy screw remover drill bits to get them out when testing different mounting positions. To be fair, I probably exceeded the specified torque (2,5-3 nM) by a large margin not having used a torque wrench for this, but still shame on Klickfix for spoiling their high quality product by throwing in these screws, seemingly made from play doh alloy.
