Trek Emonda SL6. I live in the mountains and I want to get back into road cycling. I've always ridden older janky bikes and I've never been on top of the newer stuff. What do we think of this? I was considering a trek domane al 2 gen 4 from my local bike shop for $1500 CAD. Alternatively, this one is also going for $1500 CAD but no taxes. Thoughts?

  1. Tbh neither of those options are particularly appealing.

Used bike is quite a bit too expensive. In my market, you could get this for about 800 Euros. has a fairly small cassette, so no fun uphill, and the cassette also looks to be close to done.

But I’m also not liking that new Domane for the price. Basic gearing that’s on its way out (Shimano is replacing anything under 105 with Cues, and this model still has the ‘old’ Claris shifters/derailleur), mechanical disc brake, heavy frame…

IMO the best way to do this is either look for a rim brake bike from a less well known manufacturer with similar spec to the Trek you posted (Ultegra, carbon frame) for about 1k, or look for a lightly used entry level gravel/road bike with hydraulic disks and 105 – should be doable for 1.5k.
