  1. MonsterKabouter on

Depends, some of the famous mountain passes have great views but are pretty challenging

  2. Are you trying to do it easily or most scenic?

Those are mostly the same anyway. The ‘Rhine’ option just takes a detour and goes over the Oberalppass first.

The EV5 might have a slight issue between Brunnen and Altdorf. I think the road there was (maybe still is) closed to bikes with a little shuttle bus running back and forth. Edit yep – https://www.astra.admin.ch/astra/de/home/themen/nationalstrassen/baustellen/zentral-nordwestschweiz/a4-axenstrasse/ueberbrueckungsmassnahmen.html you can also take the train to skip that bit too.

And do all the passes. Furka, Grimsel, Gotthard, Stelvio… all of them.

  4. I just did a very similar tour three days ago, I followed the Hinterrhein and crossed via San Bernadino. While this part was beautiful, I had to go from Bellinzona to Lugano via Monte Cenerri. If I see it right, Komoot has suggested the same thing for you. The uphill climb (5 km) was one of the worst experiences I had while cycling, after that it was ok‘ish. In hindsight I would have crossed via Splügenpass already and then go around Lago di como, but I don’t know if you can reach that with the route you are planning. Sleeping in the Rheinwald area was easy, though I heard a Wild boar at night 😅
    Safe travels!
