Hey folks—just joined Reddit yesterday and have been diving into the cycling threads here. I’ve worked in fitness for years and recently gave a TEDx talk about the psychology of exercise—why we say we love it but still struggle to stick with it.

Might be helpful for anyone who's found themselves skipping rides or wondering why consistency can be so hard—even when we know the benefits.

Here’s the talk if interested: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YNb6VAnEkUA

Looking forward to learning more from this community and happy to field questions.

Cheers,
Mike

It is weird. I’d been overweight and largely sedentary for decades.

I’ve now been to the gym 405 days in a row.

I go at 2pm every afternoon. It is so easy now.

Sometimes I just find myself packing my gym bag with no recollection of intending to do so.

I’m down 80# from my peak a few years ago.

But it all started when I got a dog 7 years ago. He needs to be walked twice a day. For reasons I do not understand he refuses to poop in his own back yard.

So we started walking 1 mile, twice a day. and he does not let me forget that it is time to walk.

    Thank you, Teddy!

I’m now 56 and in some of the best shape of my life.

It also recently occurred to me how stupid it was to drive to the gym. Now I ride my bike to the gym. It is only 2 miles from home.
