2001 GT Hotwheels limited edition

Had this since I was in high school, around 2009 or 10 I think. Buddy of mine found it in a trash pile somewhere. Had no wheels or chain, but otherwise pretty complete bike. A little banged up but I pilfered some wheels off an old mongoose and a new chain and I was cruising.

It creaks and groans a bit when riding it, but I'm also way too big for it now. Looking to strip it down to the frame and rebuild it nice and solid to be ready for my son when he's big enough for it. This bike is very sentimental to me as it's one of the only belongings from my youth that I've held on to over the years. Can't wait to see my boy cruise around the neighborhood on it with his buddies someday.

I was wondering if anyone else has one or knows more history on it. And any suggestions on what kind of parts to put on it.

Thanks guys!

  1. In 2001, I would of probably offered to trade you all of my Pokémon cards, for this bike!

  2. It was a one year, 2001 only. Had Fireball red wall tires; had red GT alloy platform pedals, gt expert bars, red promax alloy brake levers, black femco alloy wheels (although ive heard of them also having blue anodized araya wheels as well, but ive only seen oem w/ black), GT Racing 2 piece cranks… grips were Dyno Lip, and the stem was a GT Piston… and don’t forget the custom hot wheels seat cover on a gt dropnose seat.
