West Yorkshire Riders Go Full SEND in Hull! (Until My E-Bike Broke…)

The West Yorkshire boys turned up in East Yorkshire today to find out if Hull’s underrated trails could deliver. Spoiler: they did (sort of) — with some big sends, a crash or two and one very broken e-bike…

Riding with Danny Muffitt [@dannymuffitt], Phil Ryan [@philryanproductions], and first-timer joining the group Adam Watson [@adamwatson562], we explored Hull’s hidden MTB gems. Adam went full send on some big jumps straight away, I battled mentally with a scary step-down, and my Specialized Kenevo e-bike gave up on life halfway through the ride with motor issues.

Hull may be flat, but this ride was anything but boring.

it’s the walk of shame that only specialized riders get to do [ __ ] is mate it really is [Music] are you actually going to film today i’m just standing over there admiring how clean your front end of your bike is compared to the back end i don’t wash it cuz it’s electric so for a change we’ve come to hull which is quite ironic because the boys who are with us today normally ride steep big hills yeah heading down to some secret jumps hidden just underneath the humber bridge as you can see from the sign we’ve got danny muffet phil ryan come all the way from bradford another guy adam who’s a local lad who we’re just meeting for the first time today but he’s riding a kno so he’s going to be an absolute sender [Music] yeah boy just getting shouted out wherever i go today heat heat what’s plan today then are we going to do this line we’re going to do this line i don’t uh i’m just going to go have a look see if they finished it i think it carries on round here comes phil into manual nice should we follow the local yeah yeah absolutely who’s the local is that me is that adam my face is still on who’s the local i don’t know this this young lad here is going to show us how it’s done fun as a little warm up they are only little jumps but tiny jumps tiny jumps yeah for you big big mountain boys for you as well nah big for me yeah boy is that is that your bald already yeah this place is distinctly fight and distinctly average distinct this is we we brought you to the best place in all first cuz being from bradford i didn’t want you complaining they’ve been busy they have this is exactly what we were here last time all right i haven’t actually been down here i just looked on internet they’ve taken the middle out of one right phil there’s some rules being in all you’re not allowed to touch your sister no you’re not allowed to touch my sister you’re not allowed to talk about your uncle or rs freeze or stage two remapping a golf gti go i didn’t mean to do a no footer mint that yeah but this is hull mate it’s not known for mountain biking so you can’t always complain about how small the jumps are i know some stuff not far oh dear you’re you’re not going to moan about how small everything is all day are you i’m having the absolute time of my life on these jumps um they’re not big i know they’re not big and i’ve done miles bigger jumps but local to my house 20 minutes away from my house and i’ve got this set up danny and phil are bored already they’re used to a lot bigger jumps but maybe they’re just not as cool as i am so they’ve turned their ebikes off so they can preserve battery for later i don’t know if they’re going on a cross country ride together or what but to me this is absolutely brilliant i’m going to do a full top to bottom of this line if i can remember where it goes after here it does come in here pedaling like mad don’t know why i’m pedaling through these but going so slow you need definitely need a bit more speed through all of this but anyway come through here drop back in and at least we can see we’ve done full full line every jump there we go full top to bottom and that was it that was the end of humber bridge playtime the yeah so tour of east york here spot one done heading back to the cars to move on to the next spot which is uh at melton bottom oh phil as an honorary guest of east yorkshire i bought you some bad boy chiller crew gloves cuz being from bradford you’ll know who the bad boy chiller crew are don’t you you know them i’m disappointed to say my sister picked one of the kids up from school thanks man are you going to wear them they’re from the bradford glove or the bad boy chill bad boy chill well they’re mint represented he’s a bitty bitty bradford boy surprised he didn’t come in a golf gt to be fair proper stage two rebat bro 22 in 20 22 in amia ks right spot number two yeah spot number two we’ll go up to the trailer at scout camp first have a blast warm up and then we’ll come into here heat heat heat heat heat heat into spot number three little sneaky way in if you know you’re not yeah boy which way did you come into it did you come from the top and in or down i come through that gap there just from top though no no just just literally there slow cuz you’re going through from there one or two cranks and he was off yeah it’s a tiny little gap oh yeah no i know i’ve not been out there before this one’s uh tiny little gap what you say you said it’s a tiny little gap it is a tiny little gap it’s all 15t let’s go i find my pedal absolutely tons of jumps in here couldn’t play on this hip i think jesus are you all right you landed it as well i know i i heard you land and i thought “yay!” and you got into the tree should we go back up and start again or do you want to just fully chill down it let’s have a roll down oh my god i should go for that step down now yeah i’m too i can’t stop laughing why cuz i set off with no intention of doing the full line i don’t know i just thought i’ll just get first jump out the way this don’t look a lot and you probably won’t really gauge it on camera but this is a step up a step down sorry that it’s got a lovely straight running the boys are up there looking at it’s almost a blind running but you’ve got a maybe 25 ft gap which is low consequence here they come but for some reason it’s massively in my head it’s such a smooth landing you can you can land anywhere past there really land into there and you you’re fine it’s so low consequence but for some reason it’s in my head it feels it’s not small but i’ve done bigger jumps for some reason it just feels fuzzy like unoptanium one of them things that i want to do but maybe won’t ever do see just looking at there just inviting this boy’s coming down obligatory fist bump and the two runs i had i felt like was probably enough speed but it’s the committing yeah i know i can do it i’m going to roll in behind you but i’m not going to send it what it m your ability is absolutely 100% there it’s just it’s commitment it’s commitment and that’s all it is riding into something that you can’t see the landing in over i’ve looked at it enough i know exactly where the landing is i know what to do i know what not to do i’m almost seeing that bit of grass as just a flat land just just jump into flat that’s all you got to do yeah right spence i’m going to follow you but i’m not jumping what you following me for film you film me be a [ __ ] yeah you got it you got it all those days led up to this moment you’ve been wanting this for well over a year okay maybe not a year but sh talking all you bro didn’t like that noise the hell don’t know like my motor disengaging or something i was on that i thought that was on absolutely absolutely a case of commitment and courage lack of courage lack of conviction i know i can do it i know i can do the jump i know i can launch it but you’ve just got to commit to it and at the moment that’s what i’m struggling with put the pedal strokes in the hard work’s done just got to send over it and allow it don’t know not sure today’s the day that’s not a good sound is it you stripped your belt mate your motor you stripped your belt i can replace them but it’s under warranty i suppose motor error check app what motor error check app yeah gone well thanks thanks specialized oh brother brother you were [ __ ] there you were so fast then i was i was going to do it go and put pressure on again no motor yeah that’s it we’re game over as soon as we try and put any pressure on it the belt’s just spinning game over absolutely heartbroken i was you can you can say it all day long can’t you that you were going to do something if you don’t get the chance to do it but i was going to do that then i was going to let go i was going to just launch straight ahead to go where you wanted and landing but bike’s knackered you’ll have to go into specialized we’re done for the day no man i’ll get some filming done of these boys to end it out gutted that was on them done it’s the walk of shame that only specialized riders get to do and i’ll push you you still got a bit it’s not quite the same is it you buy an ebike to make it easier it’s like pedaling through trial without the motor drop it you can be you can get changed while we’re on the south you’ve got enough road there why should i have to run around why should i have to run yeah but that’s a road this is not actual road why am i entitled because you’re blocking the road on your child’s tong right okay [Music]
