I just got a new Cube Nuroad Pro (https://www.cube.eu/ch-en/cube-nuroad-pro-night-n-black/829300), but it seems the front Newmen thru axle that came with it just doesn't fit the fork. When screwing it in, there's a lot of resistance to the point I cannot continue further, but the wheel is still far from properly attached. The thread on the axle is already damaged now, and I'm afraid to continue so I don't wreck the fork too.
I'm pretty sure everything is aligned well, the axle goes in smoothly, but then I just cannot make more than two or three turns before it gets stuck.
The label on the axle says M12x1.0 and 116mm, the fork according to the Cube website is "CUBE Nuroad Flat Mount Disc, Full Carbon, 1 1/8" – 1 1/4" Tapered, Fender & Lowrider Mounts, 12x100mm", so on paper it looks correct?
I assembled and serviced multiple bikes before, and this is the first time the axle just… doesn't go in. Am I doing something wrong, or is it possible they shipped the wrong axle?

Is there a bolt on the end of the fork to tighten the thru axle which need to be loosened first?
Those threads look stripped. Get a new thru axle. Also maybe chase the threads on the fork.
Judging just by that damage, my first guess would be they forgot to cut any threads at all into the fork.
Might there be a blanking plug in the threaded side of the fork? 🤷🏼♂️
Maybe threads need chasing out?
Try greasing the threads on the fork & hand threading from the other side to get it going? Wouldn’t use excessive force.
It is VERY easy for chips or other garbage to get in the threads. It likely WAS the right axle but now its damaged beyond repair. Once you get a new one inspect the threads on the fork, remove any extra material in the threads, and use a thread cleaner/chase if you can get ahold of one.
I had a bike where I had to carefully pick out all the aluminum chips left in the threads.
Many different axles that have the same length, there’s things like thread pitch that make it near impossible for us to know from the model alone whether or not that axle is correct.
Given that it’s a new bike, seems reasonable to assume that it’s the right part, but i wonder if it could’ve been returned by someone else with the wrong axle?
Nonetheless, in future I would always recommend putting the axle into the fork loosely without the wheel just to verify everything.
Another suggestion would be to remove the rear axle and confirm they have the same thread pitch (1.0). But yeah it’s unlikely to be user error – the marking you’ve got there is either cross threading (hard with an axle), no threads in the female side or the wrong thread pitch
Edit: oh yeah that axle is completely buggered. Don’t try anything else or you’ll ruin the fork further
Well, you’ve ruined that thru axle and possibly the fork too. Take it to a shop and see if they can clean out the threads in the fork, and order a new thru axle from Cube.
Edit: also, if the shop can clean the fork threads ask if they can double check that the threads in the fork match the thread pitch on the thru axle. I’d want to ensure that cube actually supplied the right part to begin with.
12×1.0mm does appear to the correct thread pitch for your bike.
It is a pretty fine pitch – many bikes use 1.5 or even 1.75mm thread pitch, so will be quite a bit more sensitive to cross threading, and you need to be certain you are threading in at the correct point.
Your definitely need a new thru axle.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like the threaded piece on the fork is replaceable, so hopefully it’s not equally damaged. If you have a Cube dealer near you, I would take it to them for inspection and installation. The fork may need to be chased with a thread tap. If the fork threads are damaged, you may even be looking at a new fork situation …
(And in case it’s not obvious now: don’t force a thru axle. If you encounter resistance, back out, make sure everything is greased, and try again.)
There probably are paint chips in the fork threads or its not properly cut to begin with. Check that, fix that and get a new thru axle. If you can get a picture of it send that to cube, might get something out of it.
Definitely contact Cube for possible warranty. It won’t hurt to stop in at your nearest lbs, either, to see what they suggest.
You have to get a thru axle w the right pitch
The threads on the thru-axle are screwed, and consider a new one.
