I thought a lot of roadies were abstainees since alcohol is just useless calories and ruins your recovery.

An older rider. It took me a few years to let goal of the addiction you detail. This subreddit has functioned as a support group.

  3. Also child more aero because less stature, lighter thus less ground resistance, doesn’t have to worry about Campagnolo or tax cuts for the rich, etc.

I do both. Just got done with a road ride this morning in full kit, but will go out on my fixed gear in sneakers, shorts, and backwards hat sometime today. I’m not a real roadie though. I come from a courier background and love the adventurous side and just riding bikes because bikes are great. Going fast is fun. Going on century rides are fun. But also pedaling down to the local coffee shop to chill with people riding vintage bikes, mountain bikes, and fixed gear bikes is fun.

I mean, the dude on the right has the better time, every time. No contest.

  6. Roadies are fine, I just don’t get the all serious stern faced ones. They don’t like to say hello or wave back, thats ok. And not all drink IPAs and many fun dudes drink IPAs. I quit drinking so IDC, do what you want and have fun.

  7. I have seven bikes, together worth far more than my car. I spend weekends riding but mostly tinkering on them in the garage. I have a friend who rides a shitty beach cruiser with ape hangers and a cup holder. She’ll ride that thing 30 or 40 miles a day up and down the coast where we live. Who’s more of a cyclist?

  8. I rode my bike to a fossil spot lately and found some leaf fossils and it was fuckin sick

  9. This is funny except that the idea that roadies are stereotypically IPA drinkers is several degrees of out of touch.

I was a roadie in the 80s and I raced track or velodrome. Matchy-matchy spandex and shaved legs. But late 90s, mountain biker: cutoff camo shorts, t-shirt. I was riding on Mulholland Drive on my Yeti FRO and if I saw a group of roadies, I would simply do a long wheelie past them. Another time, I saw roadies at a street intersection. They all unclipped their Look pedals, while I did a trackstand on a 24″ Schwinn beach cruiser. Oh the confused look on their faces! And then I would accelerate really fast (hey, track sprinter) to further mess with their heads.

Don’t worry. I’ll delete this comment. No need to downvote. I’ll shut up now. I love you guys.

  11. Kinda divisive but yeah . . .

My fave are little kids that ride old 10 or 12 speed bikes 6”too tall for them. They are fine with the 4 gears that still function and one squealing brake. Future legends

My other fave is the old guy that lives up high that drops 5000’ down into town on his old 26” mtb once in awhile. He is known to give quiet encouragement to the college roadies on their carbon wonder machines training on the “hill” as he passes them on his way home. Current legend

▫️One of them takes not riding in the street very seriously
▫️One of them will fall and be all tough about it

New to this and just curious but why is there so much hate for the roadie kit? Is it because of how folks in the kit behave or is it like the BMX helmet debate (to look “cool”)? I personally like the kit because it’s light, breathable, wicks moisture, and I feel less drag
