I am looking to buy a steel bike in good condition with a good price. I saw a Colnago Master for a good price but it was sold really quickly. The seller offered me this Marinoni for 1000 cad. Is it worth it? Or better to look for Bianchi, Colbago, Pinarello? I’m not really familiar with Marinoni bikes. Appreciate your response fellow cyclists!

I don’t know about $1000 now, but back in the day I would have given my right nut for that. Old man Marinoni’s frames were legendary.

  2. Yes. Only thing I’d change is the seatpost, seat, and rear derailleur. I’d want an alloy seatpost and a brooks leather saddle (like a swallow or a cambium) to match the aesthetic of the bike and for more comfort. The seatpost is almost certainly a 27.2 so I think an older dura ace alloy seatpost would match well. The rear derailleur is a MicroShift so it doesn’t match the rest of the drivetrain. You could get a similar generation ultegra long cage to match.

Those saddles are very uncomfortable, my grandpa tried one for a while and he couldn’t handle it and he is the type of guy who rode those saddles that looked like a sheet of carbon fiber.

But this frame looks like it’s in immaculate shape. I have a full campy Serotta Nova Special I restored and would spend more than double that to buy that bike as it sits now. This seller looks like they’re trying to move it and you may have gotten really lucky.

Do me a favor and ride the shit out of it. But also keep it stored inside and clean it up if you ride in any wet conditions. If you know your way around a bike, take it apart and definitely spray some frame saver on the inside of the tubes to preserve the frame more.

  3. You don’t need to drop 1k on a good steel bike, but if you got it, and you want it, then it’s worth it.

Fwiw, I think it’s super hot, but can’t drop 1k, so my personal answer would be a sad ‘no’.

I’d be hard pressed to find as nice of a bike for $750ish USD in my market

If you don’t think so, then no.

Likewise with any of the brands you mentioned.

  6. To me, it’s a great frame with ok stuff. I’m sure it rides great, but it’s someone’s else’s project. I’d buy the frame and maybe wheels, because I would want to chance almost everything out for my preference

Im not a road bike connoisseur, but seems a bit much. Beautiful frame though. I’d prefer to have standard spoked wheels though on this. Also the parts are a bit of a mix: advent derailleur, trp levers etc.
