I want to go as wide as possible. They say that 45mm is widest the frame can take, but with these 45mm terra trails it looks like there's plenty more room.
Would like to try and go for 29×2.0, has anyone experience that?
what do you mean plenty of room? to my eye it looks like there is like 4mm to the chain stays, I would say maybe a 47/48mm tire would fit, but IMO 45mm is pretty close to the limit already.

Looks like front will easily accept 29×2.0 and you will be good with 45mm in rear.
A nice mullet setup

Your front fork looks like its already taken a beating from the current setup. I wouldn’t risk a wider tire…

Check your inner rim width AND clearance…
My backroad from 2022 had 19mm so 45mm tires were already out of spec.
The frame of my backroad lists 45mm tire width as maximum.

2.0 is closer to 52, wouldn’t cram that in there
I’d go 50 up front and keep 45 in back. 50 in back will probably rub when leaning in turns.

45-50mm accommodate without any issues

Just let some air out you’ll get all of the benefits. You can test various pressures
