  1. plenty of leaks from cheap ones or freebie ones, but never had a leak from a Camelback bottle, so is my goto.

    I prefer smart water bottle.

Cheap af, comes with water already filled!

Never bother cleaning it, just buy another one.

Used to have some fancy bottle, forgot to clean it properly after having some electrolytes.
Next time out, tasted mold 🤢

Podiums are an absolutely awful shout. They are the absolute worst to clean.

Just get Elite bottles. They’re lighter, easier to clean and have a much better closure system that doesn’t require two hands

  4. I have just given up on bike bottles. I just use normal PET bottles with screwcaps that i refill and replace once in a while. I am not a road biker who needs to drink one handed without stopping the bike. Its a tour, not a race and i don’t want to choke while on the road. I just stop to drink and stand with the bike between my legs to have both hands free.

The bonus is that most bottle cages can fit a 1liter bottle just fine which is more than a normal bike bottle. Some cages even accept the long 1.5liter ones when you squeeze them a bit with the cap off before you put them into the cage.

Also for my hop and malty beverages i have a handlebar bag with proper thermal insulation.

  5. If all of the “hundred or more” bottles you’ve tried look like the one in the photo then they’re all going to leak – because the nipple is just an open-or-closed top. Look at ones that have a leak-proof valve instead. I prefer the ones from Purist, but there are others. Even while the nipple is open you can turn it upside-down and nothing will come out unless you squeeze the bottle.
