I rode this bike for 5 years so some tear and wear expect. Is this amount of play on my cassette cogs acceptable? If not, does tightening the cassette fix it? Do I need a new set of cassette cogs?
Thanks for your insight!
You need to re-torque the lock ring. If it comes loose like that again you might need a lock ring washer.
Edit: there should be no movement in the cassette.

Not normal, there shouldn’t be any play between individual cogs of the cassette. Likely a loose lockring, if tightening it wont help you might be missing a spacer.

If that’s the 11-34 shimano cassette then it needs a spacer if installed on a 11 speed wheel hub. I suspect it’s installed without the spacer and hence it’s loose.
This cassette is compatible with 10 speed hubs, hence it comes with a spacer.

Pull that dork-disk off, might fix it.

I can’t believe your rode it like this for 5 years! You’re very likely missing a 1.8mm spacer at the back of the cassette, and both the cassette, chain and hub definitely would have accelerated wear from being rode like this.
Better take the cassette off to see what state the hub is in.

It’s a kind of art.
