That one yes. Adds to the looks, plastic ones not so much.

I don’t like them but that’s the least dorky one I’ve seen.

For a long time, I was part of the “no dork disk” tribe and have always thought of these as unnecessary and ugly.
However, now that I’m older and have seen more than one wheel ruined by chain into the spokes damage, my opinion is starting to change. I still think the clear plastic ones that yellow in the sun are pretty terrible. But, an aluminum one like in your photo is actually pretty cool, IMHO: classic vintage style, won’t go brittle in the sun, performs a useful function if your hanger ever gets bent!
If this were clear plastic, I’d vote to remove it. But, since it’s a classic aluminum one… I’d say keep it!

I think the metal ones are cool.
I hate the clear plastic ones, which turn an ugly yellow and are guaranteed to shatter by the time they would ever be useful. They should be black plastic.
Also, is that your bike? You’re missing a section of shifter cable housing from the chainstay cable stop to the derailleur. The cable will damage itself, the frame.

I think the old aluminum ones are dope, I need to get my hands on one for my next build lol

Sweet chrome metal that looks rad and actually protects the spokes? Hell yeah! Shitty brittle plastic? Hell no! If it rattles, find a way to shim it, or peen the metal slightly around the center bore.

There are basically no benefits to speak of.
Berm Peak has a good YouTube video about them, but basically they are only a thing because of a misguided law which was meant to make improperly assembled bikes slightly safer.

That’s a pie plate, the stylish and favorable cousin to the dork disc.

I like the look of the metal ones. I wasn’t aware that it rattles.
That would be a no for me. My bike rattles enough.

I am a WW and a retro fan. So this is a dilemma for me. I guess if its original then retro me wins out…

If metal like that one, sure, it has a charm to it. The plastic ones gotta come off immediately.

That’s a non-dork dork disk.

The other day I was watching a Bike Farmer video and he had a dork disk/pie plate that attached to the freewheel or cassette. That single thing right there made me want one.

Take off everything you don’t need including the dork disc, and those reflectors
