Looking at this for a beginner (I'm mid 50's) . I'm pretty fit and do some mountain biking but looking to get a cheap road bike to keep up with friends. I'm 5.8 and 30inch inside leg so not sure if it will be slightly too big or too aggressive for a beginner

Excellent first bike, the price seems fair as well. Judging by the dork cockpit setup, this one hasn’t seen much action, either.
54cm should work great for you. Bike looks good. Price is good, even if it needs some minor work. Roubaix is a bit more relaxed than a race bike, but the way it is currently set up is a bit extreme with the front end sky high.
