Iona Goes to Parliament! 🚲 Speaking Out on Why Cycling Should be for Everyone

Iona swapped her bike helmet for something a little smarter – with a visit to the House of Commons.

She was invited to Parliament as one of @CyclingUK ’s 100 Women in Cycling for 2024 – and she’s the youngest person ever on the list. The reception, held on the terrace, marked 10 years of the Big Bike Revival, and focused on how to get more people – especially women and girls – cycling.

Iona spoke confidently with MPs, representatives from Active Travel England, and even Olympic gold medallist Chris Boardman, about why we need more safe, well-lit cycle paths that feel welcoming to everyone.

Right now, only about a third of cyclists in the UK are women – and safety is one of the biggest reasons why. Iona’s message was clear: we need to change that.

And in true bike ride style, she finished the day with a well-earned treat – or maybe a few… chocolate ice cream bombes on sticks!

hi I’m Iona and yesterday I got to do something pretty amazing i went to the Houses of Parliament i was invited as one of 2024’s 100 women in cycling and I’m actually the youngest on the list i was there to help celebrate 10 years of Cycling UK’s big bike revival and to talk about why it’s so important to get more people especially girls and women riding bikes [Music] [Music] iona spoke confidently to MPs transport leaders guests including Olympic gold medalist Chris Borman now commissioner of Active Travel England about how we can get more people especially women and girls on bikes right now only a third of regular cyclists in the UK are women and nearly 60% say safety is their biggest concern iona shared her own experience made the case for more protected psychopaths roots that are safe well-lit and feel comfortable for everyone not just the brave she showed young voices can make a real impact and the future of cycling should be for everyone and of course it wasn’t all serious also managed to enjoy more than a few droplet ice bombs on a stick it was inspiring to see Iona a young cyclist helping lead the way on making active travel for everyone [Music] [Music] [Music]
