As someone who has recently gotten into cycling in recreational way (instead of just getting from point a to b) I really wanted to try out going on a longer trip with my bike.

Isle of Wight seemed like a great target as I live near the ferry and the distance to go all the way around the island seemed perfect for 2 day weekend trip (can't afford to take additional time off work atm).

In the end my route planning skills are clearly not yet honed as I ended up doing some absolutely silly stuff on my little brompton, including steep singletrack descends and some overgrown muddy trails that were so narrow that even my tiny handlebars barely fit. Ended up with few cuts, few bruises but somehow didn't crash once this trip. I quickly learned that sometimes you just may need to get off the bike and carry it down a drop instead of thinking of doing a 1m drop on it….

For accommodation I ended up booking a small glamping spot at Windmill Campersite, the amenities provided were great and allowed me to venture without having to bring a tent and sleeping bag with me. Next time though I would love to try wild camping as there were some amazing remote spots that I encountered on the trip.

Overall I really enjoyed my time riding around and getting to see so many amazing views, after the trip I realised I should probably be taking more photos of all the things I got through (only took like 25 photos in total) but at the same time I'm happy that I wasn't just thinking "Oh I need to take a photo here", great memories don't always need to be photographed.

As for the bike, it's a basic 6 speed Brompton C line, it definitely wasn't made for trips like this (and any offroad riding in general) but it held up amazingly, feels like riding a tank.

Sounds like a lovely little trip OP and some valuable learning experiences for adventures in the future.

Different place but I’d like to do a small tour of Isle of Man on one
