  1. Started showing it’s age. It cracks on the sides because you don’t ride it full pressure and it lost it’s flexibility, so it cracks. You can still ride it but start thinking of it’s replacement.

Dry rot. How old are the tyres? And do you leave them in the sun? UV light trashes tyres. Might not have been inflated to the correct pressure. Could be a one or a combo of these things.

Lots of people would say they’re fine to use, but cracks in sidewalls are a no-no. I wouldn’t personally, mainly because the cracks are on the shoulder of the tyre(s) and that area spreads/expands when cornering.

  3. Ah, the weekly post about the cracks on a GP5000.
Continental tires just do this after a year, after 2-3 years it gets really bad.

Did u keep them warm? I’ve got tubular on my bike so it may be different.

I stored it for a winter season and when I pulled it out my tyres looked like yours. The cold weather pulls the moisture out from the rubber and ages it super fast.

They look like they’re very old, but it sounds like they’re fairly new. I would buy a different brand tire

  6. You’d be surprised what kind of terrible looking tires will still get you from point a to b. If your tire rubber is losing grip or you’re doing high-speed crits with tight turns toss them sooner than later. Otherwise this tire will become a problem eventually and you’ll start to flat on the regular. As long as the compound still hugs the road, you won’t die.

  7. Just my two cents: i’m running Schwalbe One V-Guard (2014 variant, before being replaced by Pro One) for few years now and it still hasn’t cracked at all. So if you’re thinking for replacement, i can recommend Schwalbe tires.
