Hey everyone! Trying to build a 90s Bianchi with a 10 speed Campagnolo Chorus group. The hanger area is about a MM thicker than the gap between the screw and tab thing on the derailleur. first time building a bike with a campy 10 speed group and at first I thought the derailleur was modified since there was no limit screw here, but apparently campy changed this in the mid 2000s.

I feel like the solution is to either file away a bit of material on that spot of the hanger? Or modify the derailleur somehow? Or am I doing something wrong / should i change my plans and use a different derailleur?

Any suggestions is appreciated! Thanks everyone!

  1. Personally, I would just grind the hanger so that the derailer fits, but just in that location where the lip will need to go. I don’t see how this would compromise the strength of the hanger in any meaningful way.

I’m not sure when exactly the derailer hanger dimensions have been “standardized”, but that derailer is roughly 2002 to 2005. The frame is at least 10 years older?

Out of curiosity, I measured some spare hangers that I have lying around, and that dimension was about 4 mm in all of them.

I would file a bit off the frame. Modifying a derailleur brings much more risk with the chain not wanting to tension, and without a b screw to correct that it would be risky.

  3. Don’t know the right solution but just want to compliment you on choosing a very nice frame and components for your build.
