Hi, I’ve been working on this Nishiki Prestige for some time, been digging how it has turned up, but been thinking about switching the reams since they are a little beat up, right now it has 27 inch rims and I’ve been thinking on switching to 700cc since I have a friend who is a really good wheel builder but I’m kind of hesitant since it may require to change the brake calipers and new tires and tubes will be needed (obviously), or should I play it safe and buy new 27 inch rims and build the same wheel pretty much, has someone has had any good or bad experience on this conversion on the same or similar frames? Any help, comment or suggestion is much appreciated

  1. Only two concerns are: 1. bb height will be reduced thus lead to more pedal strikes and changed geometry (lower center of gravity and more twitchy due to reduced trail). 2. Brakes needed to be lower due to smaller wheels.

Good sides are, bigger tire clearance, more common more choices of and cheaper tubes and tires.
