Is this a decent ride for a first gravel bike? A local bike shop has them on sale and would be willing to switch out the smooth tires for something knobbier. Also 2 rings vs 1. Is it a big deal? My buddy swears by 1 ring. We are in pretty flat Florida but frequently venture up to North Carolina.

The 60 has basic entry level Claris road bike components and mechanical disc brakes. With the road group and slick tires I suppose they are aiming this bike at touring. A step up often gets you a gravel specific group set and hydraulic disc brakes.
The double chain rings often gets you a taller range of gearing for hills which can be good for beginners. A single chain ring is great for the simplicity to go through the range of gears with the single shifter and a single derailleur.
