I’m new to biking. I decided to learn this year. Today while I was practicing switching gears going up hill and down hill this happened. Initially my back wheel wouldn’t turn at all so I carried it home. The spoke protector is very broken but I’m not sure how important that is. What do I need to fix it? Is my derailleur broken or just the hanger? I tried looking it up but I’m still quite confused. Any help is appreciated ☺️

Looks like a broken derailleur hanger which are relatively inexpensive to replace
Nearly impossible to tell from the pictures, but it sounds like the derailleur cage is caught in the spokes.
Turn the rear wheel backwards and get that lower cog out. Then take it to a bike shop or learn to adjust the derailleur including the High Limit screw.
Next time you take pictures put the parts you want to see on the light side of things with the light source behind you.
